There is a beautiful GT2 RS on eBay and they are asking $350,000 for it. It is beyond my price point, but I have been watching the 997 TT and GT2 market and they have been softening to a point where I might be able to buy one.

For example there are '08 GT2's in the $120,000 asking range. The '11 GT2 RS sold for around $260 and the '08 GT2 sold for around $200. Does the scarcity of only 500 GT2 RS's really create a 35% premium over new when the GT2 sells at a discount of 60% when new?

Probably. There were only 600 GT3 RS 4.0's I believe and prices are in the low to mid $3's. There are even less of the GT2 RS... I would imagine someone will pick that up.

 

I know I won't get this right, but if my memory serves me, I believe there were only about 500 997 GT2s made in '08 and about 180 in '09 - same car, no differences. My recollection is about 200 were brought to the US. If the low numbers drive the GT2 RS prices, it seems this should be true for the GT2 as well.

A friend got a GT2RS a couple of years ago and "overpaid" about $225k. Prices now are stupid.

 

Thanks drsullivan, I had recalled and was going to say 185, from what I had seen before, but wasn't 100% certain of my memory. Thanks for clarifying with actual numbers. This very limited volume should keep values up and likely increasing.

 

My dream car Prices are just too insane to justify.

 

Really considering adding a 997 gt2 or 2014 Viper TA to the stables in the summer. Need to drive both first.

GT 2RS 500 worldwide and roughly 133 USA I think, 3 have been totalled. 1 in the US and 2 in Europe. I Have #455 and I think you will really like an RS. I have had many turboes from 1976 until an RS they are all fun cars. GT2 is also very good. Enjoy whatever you buy-go fast and safe!
