Also, is this a 6MT because if it is you have the best shifts 3rd-4th gear ever.....

The 5.99 s 60 to 130 mph shows how efficient the 997 is at higher power levels and gearing as you do a really quick 100-130 on a run where your 60-100 mph is slower than my car (E85-996TTS) which does 60-130 0.5 s slower
My data might be a bit goofy as I was fighting the onset of ignition issues on that 5.99 run. It definitely was breaking up in 4th. I think it will do 5.40s or 5.50s once I get everything going again.

Rix - you shouldn't be having ignition problems at your boost level? I put in BBI's coils just in case, but are you sure you weren't actually running into fueling problems?

Edit: and I just reread your original post where you concluded it was ignition issues. I think non-stock plugs might be the problem. I know Todd told me specifically to keep OEM plugs, as he saw issues with non-oem on too many cars.

When you do datalogs do you see any timing being pulled? if yes, how much? just curious. My latest tune has no timing being pulled and I'm satisfied to give up a little performance for the sake of long-term reliability.

Well I shouldn't be having problems... I was running the Denso plugs that Todd recommended. But it's very definitely ignition related. I bought the EVOMS coils so I could run a wider plug gap, otherwise stock coils I think would be fine.

I am putting these in it now

That's what Mitch and BBI recommended.

It doesn't pull any timing at all on E85. I've seen it once or twice randomly. When it did happen it was .75 to 2 degrees. Compared to even the Protomotive 93 octane tune which was constantly pulling a little timing it's night and day.

I think at this power level (~700whp+) the worry isn't knock so much as it is rod longevity.

You can see in the second graph the linear following of the fuel pressure relative to manifold pressure. This is just to show a bit more correct 1:1 ratio.

Thanks for reading

Wait just a minute Mitch - you are logging fuel pressure?

Haha yeah just on the dyno for now. Got more data coming later today, but I will make another thread in the next day or so.

Can you just put a sensor on the spare nipple near the fuel filter or are you doing something more elaborate? I guess the part that poked my ears up is it looks like you are feeding that sensor data back to the ECU and logging it? Or are you using a standalone logger?

Just using an analog 0-5 on a pressure transducer on the dyno.

We are using something on the fuel filter to get a sensor on it and then run wires to the dyno.

There are all kinds of wires coming out of back of the car!

I don't recall seeing any knock on the Proto tune but it's been a while since I looked at it. Did you get any 60-100 times on pump gas with your current turbos?

I haven't had any pump gas in my car since ~2013 . Best 60-100 on E85 is ~2.57 seconds. I can't really extrapolate what it would be on gasoline, I didn't get the vBox until I put the new turbos on. I know anecdotally on stock turbos with a Protomotive 93 octane flash the car trapped in the low 120s 1/4 mile. I would guesstimate that with E85 it would be around 133mph? The gains are shocking.

Maybe it's just my car but it never really ran the way I wanted it to on 93. The Protomotive flash made the car faster but it wasn't what I was looking for. The instant I put E85 in it the thing just went plaid. Straight out of the Spaceballs. You could feel it advancing timing to the rev limiter with authority, the car just felt badass. Now with the 68mm turbos it really flies. I would like to do a 93 octane calibration for it at some point but when E85 is $1.40 a gallon and 2 miles from my house I doubt I will be buying anything else.

I was just down there tonight in my baby hauler Ford. Car mods, turning Porsche drivers into Ford drivers since the beginning of time....

Seriously though, I'm always game if you want to come out and play cars sometime. Send me a PM.

I will never run pump gas on my 996 TTS again, the power difference is stupendous and even running FBO with weenie stock K24s + the E85 tune running even E70 gas is mind blowing. I did 10 x 60-100 mph runs yesterday in the damp all 2.75-2.99 secs, most 2.85 on the flat, back to back in about 15 minutes... car pulled like a jet on a damp road

On 93 octane it does a best 3.15s but usually 3.25 or so.... all 3rd gear pulls starting at 40 mph

If I had that kind of access to e85 I would never use pump gas again!

I had no issues with my Proto 93 tune with both stock vtgs and 63s.

The Cobb 68 tune is awesome though. Super smooth and holds boost all the way up. I think the next tweak will be to the timing curve as I think we are at the max boost without timing being pulled at all.

I did 3.1s 60-100 starting at low 50mph in 3rd gear. It was just for fun. With gentle slope and lower starting speed it would probably do 3.0 or maybe 2.9. On one version of the tune it did 2.69 and I can tell you that felt fast. I'm jealous you can get that consistently! That's where scary fast starts (around 2.7s)
