PPI Completed Need DME Over-Rev Opinions before I pull the trigger
PPI Completed Need DME Over-Rev Opinions before I pull the trigger
Had a PPI completed on a 2007 manual coupe with 29k miles. The DME report came back with the following:
Total Engine Hours 1107.3 (Avg. Speed ~26 mph)
Type 1: 5290 last at 1092.5 hours
Type 2: 1591 last at 1092.5 hours
Type 3: 477 last at 855.7 hours
Type 4: 81 last at 435.5 hours
Type 5: 0
Type 6: 0
Glad the car doesn't have any in range 5 or 6, but 81 type 4 is kind of in the grey area. Looks like the money shift happened a while back probably somewhere in the 11k-12k mile range so the car has been driven another 17k miles and 3-4 years without issue since then. Also the average speed of 26 mph seems pretty low which might be a good thing or maybe the car hasn't see much highway use.
What do you guys think? Other than this the car is in great condition both mechanically and cosmetically.
Thanks for the help.

Over-revs are over-rated. These weren't bad and happened a while back. I doubt the engine will explode when you start it up. Is it a manual? or a Tip that is tuned?
Over-revs can occur in several ways. These don't look bad. You are talking about a fraction of a second....

Awesome I'm gonna do it - I felt the same way but having other's opinions are always helpful so thanks for chiming in. I just spoke to the seller and worked out a final price, booked some plane tickets for tomorrow, and packed a bag with my Valentine 1. After that it's an 8 hour drive home so it should be a good time to get acquainted with it.
I'll post up some pictures once I have her in the garage and clean the bugs off the front bumper.

"Money Shift" are you kidding us? Recent readings and new theory, is the flywheel sensors 1.2mm tolerance is to blame. It is seen as a spike of about 3K at startup. I have seen this in my DME report. I actually caught it by accident. It registers as rev range 1 thru 4. Looking at your report, its evident to me that if you hit that range 4, it should have triggered 1 thru 3, which is not shown. Does not compute, odd reading. Anybody else?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

MTR you are correct, I think Al is reading the hours as "hours since it last occured" instead of what it actually is which is "total run time on the engine when the over rev occured".
Regardless that DME is fine, dont hesitate to buy it.

Right, therefore your 1.2mm adjustment is right in. On mine, it hit 1 thru 5 same time and i know I didn't have a "Money shift" therefore, my adjustment is contributing to my rev reg eveytime that spike occurs. I will put up the WM page that describes the adjustment.
looks good to me ! no 5s and 6s. avg speed and run time line up with mileage.
