But two years ago we upgraded a GT2RS and the turbos that came off the car were different then a GT2 we compared them with, I'm amost sure.

They do this a lot. When the 997.2 Turbo and Turbo S came out...originally they had different part numbers for pistons/rods/crankshaft...which led us to believe that the engine were slightly different. Today, if you look them up, they show the same replacement part #'s for both Turbo and Turbo S. Porsche has a habit of updated parts a few years after the cars come out in order to make the parts delivery systems easier and cheaper. Or sometimes it's just because one part is found to be better then another. Who knows...

*edit...I just confirmed in the PET system...they currently DO show the same part number for both GT2 and GT2RS. Interesting. Looks like Porsche now offers the RS turbos as replacement for the standard GT2. Interesting...
I'm 100% sure they've always been exactly the same part nos as I researched this before sticking a pair of GT2 snails on my 997 turbo. They're just run differently on the RS. Having said that Porsche always make small changes to things like turbos all the way through their life but they'v always had the same PET nos. Checked this with my local Porsche centre when the GT2 RS was released as was thinking about buying one. What surprised me was that it wasn't as unique as I thought it would be and you can achieve much more by upgrading a regular GT2
