GT2RS - Running multiples tunes ?

Hi guys ,

New to the P community , I just picked up a GT2RS.
The car is heavily modified for track duty ( exhaust , aggresive settings , Champion's intercoolers , dyno tune etc... ) putting down 730hp.

I have 0 knowledge on Porsche tuning hence my question :

I want to be able to switch from various tunes when the situation needs it.
lets make it clear :

1 - I'm having a good fun with friends on the autobahn : I want the full 730hp
2 - I'm getting the car on the track : I want "only" the stock 620hp
3 - I'm invited and have to leave the car to the valet : I want like 100hp lol

Question is : how can I , keeping my custom dyno tune , switch tunes "on the fly" ? ( I understand some flashers can take like 5-10min to flash , that's ok )

Most flashers want to sell THEIR performance tunes but I don't need it. I only want to have to choose between these 3 tunes - keeping my 730hp tune is mandatory !!.

Many thanks for the inputs.

Alex.

Hi Alex....does the car have our Champion/GIAC software installed currently?

If it does, you should have also gotten the GIAC flashloader which allows you to switch between pump and race gas tunes within seconds, as well as valet, or complete immobilizer modes.

If it's another tuner's software, then you'll have to contact them directly to see what options they have for switching capabilities. Typically, once you have a particular tuners software installed on the car, you're bound to their framework, meaning switching tunes can only be done using whatever means they offer. With GIAC, that happens to be the OBDII connected flashloader device.

Hey Tom ,

Unfortunately , I have no idea what was the tuning platform used I'll try to get more intel on that. All I know is I got no OBDII device with the car.

By the way , your IC are just amazing... what an incredible build quality.. I'm sure they'll do wonders on the track !

Have you ever put the car on a dyno to see how much WHP it actually makes and how the curve looks?

Sounds like you want the openflash tablet. I think it should do what you want. It pretty much gives you the hardware and software to do what you want and use the tune you have and swap tunes easily. This is the only product I know of that isn't trying to lock you into something proprietary somehow. The biggest challenges here I see might that your current tune is encrypted/obfuscated/booby trapped somehow, with a smaller challenge might be getting a hold of the proper gt2rs stock tune since you don't have it. Maybe openflash already has it. *i havn't used this personally, but it sounds great and the price is right*

Other hardware you should be looking at:

Cobb accessport (not sure if it will let you capture you existing tune)
Revo SPS+ switcher (not sure if they will be able to keep your existing tune when you send ecu in)

The Champion intercoolers are incredible. I tracked an entire day in very significant heat. I was boosting over 20psi and my terminal MPH as measured on my VBox on the ROVAL (at AutoClub Speedway in Fontana) didn't change from the coolest part of the morning (~ 75 degrees to the warmest part of the afternoon at 103+ degrees). The car just kept pulling like a freight train lap after lap after lap. That is the true test for an intercooler. Flow tests, etc blah blah.

Not true...the GT2RS uses a unique turbocharger that is larger then the standard GT2. That's how it can so easily make over 600hp at the wheels with such low boost.

Very nice numbers!

I saw once an Evo 9 with Motec EM that could change between maps within a sec you should check this option maybe they can copy your current map regenerate the stock one and create a Valet mode(why give a GT2RS to valet ).

Amazing car , enjoy it.

Thats not correct Tom.

GT2 and GT2 RS turbos identical and same part nos. Running them on my car and checked this with Porsche.

Porsche must have recently updated the parts system and superseded the original GT2 factory turbos. If you order them now, yes, you may get the same ones.

But two years ago we upgraded a GT2RS and the turbos that came off the car were different then a GT2 we compared them with, I'm amost sure.

They do this a lot. When the 997.2 Turbo and Turbo S came out...originally they had different part numbers for pistons/rods/crankshaft...which led us to believe that the engine were slightly different. Today, if you look them up, they show the same replacement part #'s for both Turbo and Turbo S. Porsche has a habit of updated parts a few years after the cars come out in order to make the parts delivery systems easier and cheaper. Or sometimes it's just because one part is found to be better then another. Who knows...

*edit...I just confirmed in the PET system...they currently DO show the same part number for both GT2 and GT2RS. Interesting. Looks like Porsche now offers the RS turbos as replacement for the standard GT2. Interesting...

Well,
we have a stand alone flasher that reads out the ecu first, then we make modifications. With that said your original tune would be the tune thats in the car... we then would have to either write new files and and or modify yours... or even give you a OEM file if you wish.
the flasher holds up to 10 tunes at once and swaps between them on the go without need of wifi or laptops....
good luck,
markski
