997 Turbo Tip for 996 Turbo?

I have a pristine seal grey 2001 996 Turbo 6 speed with 6,600 miles that I have owned for 10 + years. Great options including s.seats,c.fiber,ect. I obviously don't drive it much and have considered getting a 997 Turbo with Tiptronic. Considering I'm at retirement age and there is so much traffic these days I may use it more. Has anyone gone from a 996 Turbo to a 997 Turbo with Tiptronic and what are your thoughts. I love my car but was wondering if movingly into a 997 Turbo would make that much of a difference and would it be worth the $$ difference. Thanks for your input

I don't think moving to a 997 will make any difference unless you plan on driving it more, you have barely driven the 996 as is so moving to another car you will barely drive doesn't make much sense.

I'd ask if you are tired of rowing gears, but with 6k miles in 10 years I don't see how you could be tired of something you barely do in the first place. Does the manual make you not want to drive it? If so then moving to an automatic would be good for you.

I went the other direction, i went from an auto that i got tired of to a manual and drive so much more now.

Also my 2cents, but you're getting to retirement... start driving your car more (whichever you get) because you live once. No point in keeping the miles off for the next owner.

What about the 997 over the 996 Turbo. Would the 997 Turbo be that much of a change over the 996 Turbo. My 996 is like new with no miles and I just wonder if it would be worth the $ difference for a weekend driver. I really like my car. Thanks for any input.

For the amount you drive it, no i don't think it would make a difference. However the 997 is a bit more refined and polished. Updated AWD system too. Depends what you're using it for. If it's just a cruiser i'd keep the 996 as it's a gem with such low miles and probably like a new car anyways. You'll pay a pretty penny more for a 997 with that many miles and unless you plan on driving it a lot more than your current car it would be a waste of money.

Agreed keep it. And post some pics! I would love to see a 15-year old car with only 6k miles.

Hey Charlie!
+1
I often get torn between them. The 997 is obviously better is several ways BUT, the 996TT is an amazing car that was a real game changer. Best bang for your $ especially like new. I don't see it as enough of a benefit. Yes on the pics!

I think you answered your own question with this statement in this post - "I really like my car" - save the money.
