My spun camshaft story

When my car was at the dealer here in FTW getting my work done, I was talking to the head tech and he had spoken with the folks at PP and he mentioned the "car who had its engine out 3 times trying to fix the issue.." THis was back in the Sept/Oct timeframe.
What weight oil are you using?

Hope so man. TKS!
So far nothing has been cheap. but with me taking the engine out 3 times and the help of some Porsche techs has saved us a ton.

So its FIXED! Thanks for the help guys! I was going to bring the car to Todd but he said it could be a couple months before he could get to it. He's super busy so he sent me over to Steve at Driver source and that's where it was fixed. Cam gear was timed wrong and DME was no good. So Porsche of Plano is not that great when it comes to Diagnosis, Throwing parts at it is not cool. And my ex coworker who work there before failed me.
Anyway. Really appreciate the help guys!

Good to hear it's fixed..WHat do you mean by "DME was no good"? Was it corrupted in some way?
I haven't been too impressed with my local dealer here in FTW.. they have been chasing a slight coolant leak on my car for a few months now.. thankfully its a warranty issue.

This is !
I had both of these failures. I had the cam sleeves pinned and got the car back. Had an issue with the stock map sensor being installed when I sent the car in with the 3 bar that the software was already scaled for. Anyway, got that sorted out and the very first 3rd gear pull I made, it ran weirdly and then wouldn't idle on more than 3 cylinders. Misfires on all of bank two and the durametric showed maxed cam deviation of 30 degrees. Guy who put the motor back together instantly knew what the issue was. The cam sprockets are degreed and not keyed to the snout of the cam and are held in place by nothing more than friction. If the mating surfaces aren't 110% free of oil, the sprocket can spin and mimick the cam sleeve issue.
My car is back apart getting this fixed as we speak.

I have been experiencing "similar" problems for the last 6 months. Only difference is we were getting a CEL on bank 2 relating to the MAF. Extensive logging, PIWI etc indicated that we were not getting the high lift only on bank 2 and therefore not much boost. Engine was pulled, probably three times, Cams were pinned by Todd, and still experiencing the same problem. I'm hoping that changing the solenoid will cure the problem.
acag, did the engine have to be pulled to adjust the cam timing problem? What is a DME?
