We've had the 997.2 ICs initially and moved to the AMS after as we've always found AMS hardware to be backed with proper design and testing. Proper flowing, cast end tank design and quality cores along with larger shrouds, y-pipe and a perfect fit. Very hard to beat all around. We've sent out a number of them over the last year and a half or so and feedback as well as results while tuning a number of setups with them out there has always been nothing short of superb.

changster, you made a great choice here. Great photo shooting by the way, love the pics.

With AMS, you pretty much never have to worry.

With aftermarket kit always good to see better than OEM quality. Credit to AMS.

at what point do the tiny little intercooler ducts become the choke point ?

I've been wondering about an air:water setup that sits where the air box is with an Hx (heat exchanger) between the radiators and an ice box in the trunk.

That ams intercooler is huge and should flow tons of air on the boost side but how much is it getting through the fender?

Also at a certain point (and i'm not saying 5.5" is that point) doesn't the thickness of the intercooler actually reduce the cooling flow through it by having too great of pressure drop.

I'm just asking questions to learn.

Thanks.

A2W will forever be better and more efficient than A2A. It's just whether you can accept the compromises. I can't for this car. I can for my 1600whp GTR which is basically a race car for the street.

For all your other questions - it is all speculation until someone is willing to test it and share the data. I won't be bothered because I know AMS does their homework and always releases a tested product.

Changster, what are your downsides to the air to water intercooler (other then pump failure) the only vehicles i have used them on, came with them so it was an OE setup and haven't really run into any issues other than capacity.

FYI i wasn't trying to bash anyone or anything especially not AMS i was just asking when the cooling flow becomes the choke point. Things like e85 and meth injection are so common now if someone spent 6k on an intercooler setup certainly they are considering those options that will mask the intercoolers actual capacity anyway.

Anything over the stock IC's is good specially when in middle of battle and after modding.

I like those AMS units a lot! They looked sweet and complete. I've seen them in person while in back home in Chicago; I only wish they had some available when I was in the market for a pair.

I went with the Protomotive units which is essentially are the same size, but not as complete as the AMS units with the CF shroud, but they bolted up in fine fashion.

Thanks,
E-Gear

You have a Veyron? Is that why you have A2W as standard OE? haha j/k.

The OEM stuff is great. No downsides there. What I was talking about was mainly in big HP aftermarket builds like my big power GTR. The downside is having a big tank in your trunk. The maintenance of the water / ice, the complexity of the system having to install a water pump etc. The biggest downside for me is the big water tank. It's borderline race car status at that level. That's why I refuse to use meth in the Porsche. The Porsche for me is a balanced street/track car not an all out HP car so I refuse to put a big tank in the trunk.

But look at what AMS has for the R8. They have a sick A2W setup for their Alpha 10 R8. Something like that, I'd have zero problems with cuz it's basically OEM and no need for additional tanks in the trunk.
