Before we get into the basics on what this thread is about ...I don't want to turn this into a ***** match were everyone is yelling and tossing f bombs at each other...I've been a porsche guys my whole life...love the rush of turbo cars and love the ability that we have one of the most tunable cars were every few years we can just change a few parts...and pizza delivery guy has 60 hp at your door step thank you SR....
When I first. Got my car I had a fvd tune...now I'm not saying if it was a good tune or not but I do remember that torque hit really hard ...but by 4500 rpms. Car would run out of steam and felt very lazy by red line....
When I installed thar cobb tune ...cobb and garth at undercover really ripped this car a new one...the diffrence in tunes was night and day...and we're fvd started dying out at 5k...cobb felt like it was was still climbing ...car almost had a N/A felling to it and how much more smother it was....it was also a big plus that the car gained 80 hp....and 90 lbs of torque....and the smoothness of the car was unmatched to other turbos I've driven in
Evo has dropped there prices on there tunes to 1695 I believe....how much evo tune guys out there are thinking of switching and for the group that has had diffrent tune set ups do you think it's worth switching at this price range,...
Please I don't want to start a fight with anyone just curios what people think of the diffrent tunes out there now that price is not a issue...
I have only tried the Cobb,.. and didn't intend to stay with the OTS maps.
(No affiliation to Cobb in any way,.. just a satisfied customer)
The main reason I went with the Cobb was that you get the cool little device, which eliminates the need for a laptop. It not only allows you to flash your car,. but also data-log whatever you want, display a few parameters while driving, and it stores lots of tunes in it.
They come with Stage 1 & 2 maps for California 91 octane, 91 in other places and 93 octane (6 maps),.. and also a stock equivalent tune (Stage 0),... and the immobilizer and valet modes (half boost and limited to 4,000 rpm).
You can download Stage 3 maps from their site for free. (Requires bigger inter-coolers and 1,000cc injectors)
they also now have boost off the line,.. launch control (DCT).
When I have a custom tune done this Spring,.. that tune will be in there also,.. and it will only take a couple of minutes to switch between them.
Go to the track and data-log entire sessions for IAT, knock, oil temp, etc.
If I sell the car I can un-marry it and sell it and the tunes that are in it to someone else.
Really neat device.
You don't need to have it in the car,.. but you can leave it connected and use the attached mount and have it display what ever parameters you like.
I have a PRO EFI 128 with harness I am hold off to and sitting on .. but will probably go with COBB ( coming from a very strong / happy Protomotive tune ) ... strictly because of support / remote tune and not feeling like I depend on 1 guy all the time.
Also if you are getting your motor built .. you want your engine builder to work with the tune(r)...to avoid possible finger pointing
