I have an idea , I thought about it long time ago , it's making 2nd (fuel tank) ,

WHY ?
I do a lot of street racing almost daily , and since my car is DD .. Sometimes I need to get the tank empty or using external fuel hose to drop all the pump gas out and fill the tank with race gas !!! , and this take maybe 10 or 20 mins .. And it's boring in my opinion !

So I will share my idea and I will hear your opinions if anybody test it or did it before !


It's very simple , I will do custom fuel cell tank (20Litrers) in the front of the car .. With 3 pumps inside , a feed line go with Y connected the hose that goes to the fuel filter and the feed hose goes out from the factory tank !!! Both feed lines has (shut off valve) so if I want to run the race gas tank , I turn ON the valve with the feed line , and turn OFF the valve that in (factory feed line )

Even the same thing with return line , Y connected to the return line from FPR , return hose to OEM factory tank and return line to 2nd race gas tank !!! Same thing with shut off valve


Electronic wiring :

I can make switches with adapters ( relay came from factory pumps / relay came from 2nd race gas tank that will be connected o the car ECU harness !!!

All shut off valves will be easy to touch plus the electronic adapters !!!!


What do you think ???? Do anybody tested ??

fuel cell wont be protected behind the bulkhead like a factory tank is. head on accident could be deadly. also more weight than needed.

is e85 available? runs and tunes like race gas

 

Why not e85 flex fuel ?

 

Unluckily we do not have E85 in Kuwait !!!!

 

I can't think of any reason it would not work - seems like a cool idea actually, as long as engineered correctly and built with quality parts to prevent something nasty like a fire! The idea is not much different than the dual tanks some cars (early Jag, Lambo) had from the factory. Also remember the 356 had a "reserve" tank like a motorcycle, with a manual cut-over valve, so Porsche has kind of been here too.

If the idea is to save money vs running race gas all the time, obviously there is a break-even point. My TT is low miles pleasure use only now so full-time I run a blend of 100 race gas and our horrible California 91, and run a 93 ECU tune. The 100 octane costs around 2.5X as much as 91 where I live.

What type of race gas are you using and curious what it costs approximately over there?

With higher quality pure components, C85 is superior to E85 in terms of cooling effect, resistance to detonation and even includes corrosion inhibitors to fight the issues presented by ethanol. C85 works well in drag racing, oval track, off road and virtually any other automotive application, in particular forced induction applications due to its lower vapor pressure. Tests of C85 indicate most applications will require richening up by 1 jet size, or 2-3% over current jetting. Note that for racers unwilling to invest in the new carb and expensive fuel system upgrade required for E85, VP’s MS109, VP113 and Q16 continue to be the best race gas alternatives for the money.

 

short of e85 tank drain is the safest way to add racefuel or simply run racefuel all the time since you say you street race a lot.

safety takes precidence in all forms of auto racing. cars that can see 150mph + need the respect for the damage that can happen in the event of an off course. it happens in the blink of an eye

cambellcj the front of the 911 is considered a "crush" zone . any attempt to store fuel front of the bulkhead is a risk and could be deadly.

 

Reason behind this idea is WHY NOT

We can run pump gas all of time , once you want to go for full boost , you can park anywhere and switch OFF OEM pumps and turn ON the 2nd race gas tank Pumps and turn up the boost !!!

 

Am running Q16 for full boost !!

 

sounds possible, but as others have said the risks far outweigh the reward should a collision occur.

race fuel cell for secondary fuel on demand

 

I did this years ago in my camaro. but it was a poor mans setup with a switchable Y block.
BEST way is to run a second set of injectors on the race fuel side. You end up with a mix though, so you have to tune accordingly. You want to run big secondaries of course.

That way you drive the car 100% like normal, it mixes in the race gas as required.

 

Its definitely doable, there was a car at SEMA with this setup. Only issue is room.
