997 Manual Owners...How do you deal with THIS!!?!?!?

For the life of me....i can't keep this thing to stay up. I've tried a thin amount of double stick tape...but in a week it falls back down.

Any suggestions?

Looks like the adhesive/glue that bonded the leather shifter boot to the metal shift **** let go. Maybe you can try applying gorilla glue to glue the shift boot back to the shift ****?

Be careful with it when you apply it.

I had to fiddle with my new boot when I put on a red GT2RS one..

It kept falling down as well.. I carefully looked at it and it turned out I wasn't twisting it on all the way.. there's a grove that it sits in and you twist it to keep it locked in place..

Maybe that's all that has happened here?

^^^ As mentioned above, there's a locking mechanism for the shift boot. Search short shifter DIY's and you should easily find a picture diagram.

There is no glue on the OEM shifter. The leather boot is locked between two pieces of plastic so that you get the fold you see. If someone pulled it the wrong way, the leather will slip out and then you have to reassemble it. It is a solid PITA but if the plastic isn't stripped, you should be able to reassemble it back to OEM look.

see here for a decent walkthrough: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...t-problem.html

Also there are cutouts in the plastic ring to accommodate the three stitching lines on the boot. Make sure to align them to get the perfect fit.

pull the boot up over the shift ****. use a tie wrap at the very bottom of the **** to secure the boot to the ****. slide the boot back down over the tie wrap to hide it. if you work the tie wrap so its pointed towards the front its virtually invisible under the boot

Give it a cleaning with some alcohol, then use a little silicone. Benefit to silicone is it can be removed/peeled away if it doesnt work or you make a mess.

Looks like i'm missing the plastic ring because there is nothing solid inside the top of the boot. Can this part be bought on it's own?

So the plastic pieces were under the boot. I took everything apart last night and fixed it. All is good.

Thanks for the help guys.
