Smoke at Idle, Weeks After Oil Over Filled
Smoke at Idle, Weeks After Oil Over Filled
Recently I had a good buddy who owns a BMW performance shop put new plugs and coils on my turbo. I recently purchased the car with 29k miles. It had Fabspeed headers/exhaust and IPD installed and I put a cobb on and have been working with Garth on a custom tune (Great guy! Highly recommended). Once we started getting into the tuning the plugs started acting up so thats why I replaced.
While it was in there I asked him to change the oil. He's never done a Turbo before and he only drained the one plug. He finished late one night and cranked it up and let it run for maybe a minute and shut it off. When I got there the next morning to pick it up once we cranked it up it started smoking so we turned it off right away. We then figured out the error.
Luckily it wasn't driven so I don't think the oil made it too far. We pulled the air box and y pipe and there wasn't any oil from what we saw. We found some on the drivers side hose going from turbo to intercooler so we pulled that intercooler and cleaned. Drained all the oil (through both plugs this time) and refilled.
I spoke with Garth who said all should be fine since we didn't drive. We let it run for about 20 minutes, lots of smoke as expected but then it went away. On the first drive I noticed a little but it seemed to go away.
Since then its been almost two weeks and it seems like most times I get stuck at a light for more than about 15-20 seconds I will start to see a cloud of smoke come out at idle. If I give it some throttle it will go away. There may be a little coming out when I'm driving but not really enough to see.
It seems like it has been going on a little long now. Its starting to get a bit embarrassing as well. Is this normal and the car is still just working some of that oil out or is there potentially another issue? If this is normal, how long can I expect it to continue to do this?
Outside of this, car seem to run fine, pull strong, no hesitation, and no codes.
Thanks for any help.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't another potential issue. I appreciate the help
Yes those. It collects in them. Was there any in them when you pulled them? If so maybe the coolers still have a little in them also.
Yes, a good bit poured out of the driver's side one. The passenger side was dry. We pulled the driver's side intercooler and flushed it for a good 10 min with degreaser and then water.
