Anyone here have any advice and/or experience with using the Porsche trickle charger?
I just had my battery replaced and the dealer recommended I get one. (BTW, it lasted 5 years which I think was great.) They said the 911 Turbo's notoriously use lot of juice and can drain easily if it's sitting too long.
There are times when I won't drive the car for 2 weeks, but it's mostly driven at least once every few days.
I was hoping to prolong the battery's life and keep it "healthy."
Would this benefit me or is this more for a car which sits out a whole season?
I have had 3 Porsches, and I would not be without a good trickle charger. The Porsche branded charger available from dealers is pricey, however, and there are many other excellent chargers available. Check out Amazon, and pick out a highly rated one.
BTW, the one I use is CTEK which appears identical to the Porsche unit without the Porsche name.

Reason: addition
I've let my car sit for 3 weeks and it started right up. I did buy my first trickle charger, the Porsche plug in type, and I love it. I use it in the winter when there's feet of snow on the ground and I can't drive it for a month or more. I only have a vague understanding of how or why it works, but it does.
I would never use a trickle charger that I have to connect directly to the battery as that's just not my thing. The more difficult things I have to deal with in life, the more frustrated I get, so I love just plugging it into the cigarette lighter. I'm lazy so this works best. And I got a killer deal at my dealer. I sweet talked them into a large discount. It's all good. My babies.
battery tender or ctek. add the battery plug and you simply plug it in. my battery tender for my li-ion battery charges the battery then discharges it to keep any half life from happening
I use the CTEK as well. I'm not into lifting the hood so I simply plug it in to the 12V socket in the console. I bought the optional CTEK extension cable and run it through the door. My logic is if I ever damage the wire I can buy a new extension cable for I think $9 or so. The dealer told me that the 12V socket shuts down after 24 hours or something if not used so I always plug it in immediately after a drive, and only when I don't plan on driving for a few weeks due to weather. I like how the charger goes through its cycle and the lights change, tells me it is working.
Every single thing I own, boats, seadoos, UTV, cars, even my snow blower when I lived in Canada, have a hardwired to battery Deltran Battery Tenders. I've used them for 20 years, Never had a failure or a no start on any of the above while using them. Keep in minds that many of our Toys in Canada sit for 6 months in the winter and still no problems.
I have however had 2 Ctek ( OEM on Dad's Bentley ) failures and my buddy's replaced all three of his Ctek (OEM Ferrari)
I have the Porsche version.... Which is made by CTEX and given a nice label.....also has a hard wired cigarette lighter plug. Just bought a CTEX plus cig adapter and extension.....$71 shipped on Amazon....
Quick question about the CTEK. I just bought this one (non-Porsche branded):
It seems to work but I was wanting to know about the discharge and re-charge function. I have plugged it in for over a week now and it is showing all the LED's lit except for the number 8 which is the discharge/re-charge part. I'm not getting that LED yet. Does it take a long time for it to get to that stage? I have used the battery attachment connection and it is the "car" mode.
