Dumb question inside

I never purchased a car from a private seller. We have agreed on a price pending a PPI. He has agreed to take it to the local p car dealer so I can verify its what he says it is.

So if it passes PPI I'd like to pick up this weekend. Ideally I'd like to drive it home. Car is 5 hrs away.

How is do I get plates and the car registered ? And I don't plan on paying before I get three because I don't know him. He asked for cash instead of a check since he fears the check could be fake. It's not so much Money and I'll pay cash and get a bill of sale. I feel his is legit and so am I but cautious. Is there a better way?

Anyway around not having to truck it back ? I'd really like to shake it out.

Thanks

I would never pay cash. Personally inspect the car, and wire the money. A wire can be sent and confirmed in the amount of time it takes to eat lunch.

Fly in, drive the car, if you like it wire the money, and drive it home.

Agree, insistence on cash sounds like a scam at best, dangerous at worst. For the seller, he really has little risk. If you end up being a fraud (which I am sure you are not), he can just say that the car was stolen, which, in effect . . . it would have been. He gets insurance money and goes about his day-- Kh

I would do a PPI, and I would have all the paperwork necessary to register.

Have him come with to DMV, make sure all paperwork is in order and get it registered with him there. May be an all day affair but you'll have peace of mind if you're willing to pay cash.

I did a part certified check and part cash deal.

Did one of you guys buy my car ? -lol

Buyer told me someone is buying without PPI and deal is just about done. .

Didn't post too much detail other than state and hours from me. Serious detectives. Good luck with it !

cashiers check from his bank before you go to the car. better to take cash to the bank then the seller. he can then cash it immediately at his bank.
temp plate can be bought ahead of time. you may need vin # emissions cert and insurance proof.
get an insurance card with the vin from your insurance man.
