HELP: Torque Solution Braided Clutch Line/BBI Slave Unit Issue

Hi, has anyone installed the Torque Solutions Stainless Steel Clutch Line?

If so, is it rated for DOT 4 Brake Fluid - I have the BBI Slave and wanting to make sure this line is compatible with DOT 4 instead of Pentosin.

The issue I am having is the stock rubber clutch line is breaking down due to the DOT 4 fluid mixing with the rubber hose which probably has residual Pentosin absorbed into the rubber.

Thanks in advance!!

A quick search shows that EPDM hose is compatible with Dot 4 brake fluid.

I see references where fuel hose will NOT handle brake fluid.

The only braided line I see on the Torque Solution web site says it's compatible with fuel, coolant, oil and water, so I would have doubts that it would handle brake fluid, though I did not see any line labeled "clutch line". I might have been looking in the wrong place.

Did you try and give them a shout directly?

I contacted them and they no longer make the hose. Evoms is the vendor that still has old stock according to their site. Or it could be they dropship, and that would mean no more stock.

Where do I get an EPDM hose?

Thsnks for the info!

While I have no experience with the BBI unit (I did my own GT2 clutch slave conversion) I used the GT2 line. If it is the same connection on the slave side (and I cannot see why it would not be) the part number is:

996-423-377-92 from Porsche.for about $90. My need for this was that the original line would not have been long enough to make it to the hard line, which "should" mean it will be more than enough for the BBI unit, but you will need to verify that.

For that matter, if the part you are replacing is the original Porsche line you could always just get that (and it may come with that connector already on it). I "think" that par is 996-423-377-54 for about $100 but you have to check with Porsche on that.

I had to scavenge the connector to the hard line from the line I was replacing, but it was pretty straightforward, just cut the pipe behind the fitting and slide it off to the rear of what you just cut off.

Hi, I did buy the GT2 clutch line but the connections are different.

The OE rubber hose connecting the reservoir also broke down. We replaced a new rubber one but that broke down as well. So in the end we replaced with our own custom DOT 4 brake fluid line.

The BBI unit has been a nightmare. I advise anyone to stay away from these guys.

It would not have been hard for them to simply include new DOT4 rated lines with their kit instead of having customers go through what I have. And I know they know that these issues are not isolated.

Just get a new oem turbo line .. the turbo line is longer than the gt2 part and has the correct fitting ... also the new updated part is braided and is definitely dot4 safe....

Thanks!

From my post #4 above"

"I "think" that part is 996-423-377-54 for about $100 but you have to check with Porsche on that."

So that should get you headed in the right direction, here is the KAT pictures (#15) of that area (the two part numbers showing have been superseded by the above part):

Hopefully that gets you pointed in the right direction.

Had the same problems with the rubber lines on my old car with the BBi slave. The slave reservoir to cylinder line nearly totally fell apart when I found it. I replaced it with new hosing that looks strikingly similar to your solution as well.

Did not think the kit was well thought out for the money at all.

Thanks for the tips and solutions. I agree the kit should come with new lines, or at least an option. Especially now as this seems to be pretty well known and discussed by anyone that bought one. I like to install things only once. Aside from that BS, the unit itself has made an enormous improvement in my clutch feel. I should have swapped out that stock accumulator years ago.

Yes I agree 100%, the stock clutch is awful. I went with the GT2 approach which required getting the transmission off the car, but it was well worth it.

So no matter what route you take, it is a worthwhile upgrade.

I just ordered the TS line from EVOMS. We'll see what happens.

I went through exactly the same issues with my BBI slave too. Replaced all the rubber lines the first time they fell apart, and they promptly disintegrated again. For whatever reason they would be fine with normal driving, but would promptly fail when I took the car to the track. Second time it was just an autocross, but still stressed them enough apparently. That second time I ended up replacing the slave hydraulic line with the braided one from EVOMS, but I'm still on the stock reservoir line. Haven't had any problems since, but I also haven't had it back on the track. I hope the braided line will hold up, but I expect the reservoir line will indeed fall apart again—would be interested in the exact parts and steps @NWturbo used to replace it with a DOT4 capable line. Since it's not under pressure I expect it won't fail quite as quickly, but I'm sure it's going to go again too.

Agreed with others that the promise of the BBI unit, a simple swap without having to change other components or do significant labour, appears to be false. Also, they claimed that they weren't aware of others experiencing issues like this unless they didn't properly flush the system of Pentosin (which I did when it was first installed, and again after the lines failed for the first time). From all the identical reports I've seen in threads like this one, it's hard to read that as anything but an outright lie.
