Road and Track Article

Very interesting article comparing 997 tt, 430F1 and Lambo Gallardo to 'vette, Viper and Ford GT. I am surprised the 997 tt did not fair better. Perhaps the 430 is just that much better than at least the 360, as I don't think my 360 handles better and is faster than my 996 tt.

It's not really fair to compare the 360 and the 430. Much as I loved my 360, the 430 is at another level. That said, don't pay too much attention to any one magazine article. I think the all the cars tested are very close in performance.

Gary is correct...they are all great in different ways. I think people also tend to not give the 430 enough credit out there..2 friends have them and and I have driven them. The thing is much faster then the 360's I have driven both 6sp and F1..

Just read the R&T article. I was very disappointed to read how the 997 turbo performed on the track. I expected much better performance. Has me wondering if I made the right decision in ordering the new Turbo.

how can you even talk about regretting your purchase when you haven't even driven the car?

No offense but Is R&T that much of an authority?

There are many other tests, benchmarks, reviews of the TT that prove the opposite of the R&T results.

check out the 5th speed review and the online vid of the TT and Gallardo on the Autobahn. TT pulls away at will.

Yup, and highspeed autobahn runs is what a sports car is all about.

I wouldn't worry about what the rags say about the Porsche, or any car. Their comparisions are hardly objective or scientific with the "winner" being predetermined. The rags always include some subjective grading like "bang for the buck" or "gotta have it factor" which usually/always tips the scale to whatever car they favor. For example Corvette always wins over Porsche based on cost-BS and they always pick Ferrari over x, to make sure they get F cars to test I suppose.

The times for the Road and Track article are a laugh, they recorded the exact same times for a 997s in a past issue. I think we all know which is the faster car. Someone on the Rennteam forum noted that the times for these cars were the exact same as the times from an Italian magazine called Quattroroute test. Every one on Rennteam who read that test believed it to be heavily Italian biased. The fact is that basically every other test done has the turbo smoking the f430 and Gallardo. As far as the Z06, some tests have it beating the Turbo, others having the Turbo beating it. IMO that race would come down to the driver and in most real world situations the Turbo will be faster. For comparison, Car and Driver acheived 0-60 in 3.4 and 0-100 in 7.8 for a stock, 6spd Turbo without PCCB.

Conditions were obviously poor for this R&T test, as the Z06 trapped 118.7 mph (?!) and the Turbo 113.7 mph (?!).

There is comparative value though. Of 6 cars on identical tracks, the Turbo finished last or second to last in most tests (lap time, top speed, 0-100-0). Among affordable supercars, the 997 Turbo is overpriced and underperforming.

Jeers to Porsche for failing to significantly improve the looks and performance of their most celebrated car. Was 6 years not enough time?
