Cannot order a sport shifter
Cannot order a sport shifter
I've been told by my dealer that Porsche is not offering the sport shift option on any of its cars now. You have to add it after the sale. They want the dealers to make money on this as an after-sale part. Has anybody else heard this?

It's true...as of September, Porsche discontinued offering the sportshifter as a factory option. Those who already had their orders in the system such as myself were not affected. I did a little checking around and I believe that's actually cheaper to get it from the dealership than it was as an option from the factory.
My car was built in September and my dealer told me I was one of the last cars to have the SS installed at the factory. It is inconvenient that you will have to have the dealer install it but the shifter is great and a must have.

Just get the aftermarket ones they are great and I believe have even shorter shifter throws, at least thats what this one feels compared to the B&M I installed in my old GT2.

Agree with Eric re the BM, but the only advantage to buying the porsche branded unit is that it comes mounted in the plastic housing, eliminating the need to chissel out the old one. Warranty issues might be a concern re the BM as well, don't know for sure. I 've had the BM and the OEM ssk in my 996, the BM felt better.
