997TT stock wheels/tires weighed

Just weighed the stock wheels shod with Bridgestone RE050A's. Done with a digital scale, and averaged R&L sides.

Front - 49.4 lbs
Rear - 63.0 lbs

according to the TireRack, the tires alone weigh:

front - 24 lbs
rear - 34 lbs

by subtraction the tire weights then the wheels alone are:

front - 25.4 lbs
rear - 29 lbs

To me, these are very heavy for a performance car. By comparison, I weighed my track wheel/tire combo, which are 18" Carrera III's in 18x8.5 front, 18x11 rear. The tires are Hoosier R3S04 245/35/18 front, 305/30/18 rear:

Front - 43.8 lbs
Rear - 51.6 lbs

which is a savings of

front - 5.6 lbs
rear - 11.4 lbs

Total 4 savings - 34lbs of rotating weight. I don't have the calculator handy, but that is a significant impact on accelerative performance. Just FYI

nice work! interesting info! that does seem kinda heavy, i would think the weight would be more along the lines of the same weight for the stock wheels as the weight was for the 18s, since they are forged IIRC.

I just got the GT3 wheels. I weighed them before handing them over to the service department.

8.5"x19" 24.5 lbs
12"x19" 31.5 lbs

Seeing the rear wheels from the sides, they look huge!

In the switch, can you get the wt of stock turbo wheels??

Be a good comparison between stock turbo and GT3 wheels without the tires.

Are you putting the P2 tires on the GT3 rims??? If so, good time for wt of turbo wheels for apple/apple comparison.

what do you plan to do with the turbo rims. I am going to get GT3s too for my upcoming turbo, but I thought I would go through Wheel enhancement where they discount the GT3s for what the new turbo wheels are worth in direct exchange.

Keep them...will get another set of PS2s for the Turbo wheels and put them on when I feel like it. Kinda like choosing between shoes, no?

Jason, how much were the GT3 wheels? I assume you got them through Barrier. I Can't wait to see your car with them mounted.

I actually got these wheels from carnewal-europe.com. Gert was a nice guy to deal with. Great prices and services. Can't beat that.
