agreed.. from all the talk here about how fast these things are I was expecting the 997TT to get owned... of course we don't know what year the Gallardo is.

Test drove an 04 Gallardo today...my 997TT definitely feels quicker. Found a 1/4 mile time from back in the day that quoted 13 sec in the 1/4 which would explain that. For the money it reinforced what a value the 997 is.
It looks to be a stock 04-06. At full weight the Gallardo can't compete with the torque of a 997TT. I'd take my 04 G any day over a 997TT. There is just something about getting in the Lambo that makes you feel good.
...don't get me wrong...I really liked my 997 but even modded to the hilt it still didn't make me smile every second I was behind the wheel.

Love this comment.
Think about the Lambo once in a while until I get into my 911. Do the underground racing turbo upgrade and then you may feel different though.

I would put the 911TT in the class of the Mclarens, there is a reason there are more Ferraris and Lambos than a Mclaren. And its not performance, its how many chicks know what one is?

The Germans are all about performance and reliability while the Italians are all about the aesthetics and tonal enjoyment with some performance thrown in to appease the sports car "enthusiast"!
In a 997TT you can drive it to work, wring out a hot lap over lunch, pick up your kid(s) after school (age limited to 8yrs or younger) and in the evening, go out to dinner with the missus! A Lambo, can't quite cut it...
If however, being the center of attention is your thing, with just enough performance to put a smile on your face (one or twice a month) then the Lambo can't be beat!

dead on, do you want to smile about the car or smile when you think of everyone looking at you.
A stock 997 turbo would smoke the hell out of an older Gallardo - period. Why is that such a surprise? A newer one would be a closer race, but still, the turbo is faster. Mod the lambo and it is over...
By that same logic, one could mod the TT and it would be all over for a modded Lambo.

In the end, I was happy to have test driven one as for the moment, it removed any doubt about me choosing the wrong car.
True...though if I had a spare $40k to drop on a car I'd get an R8 V10 with a warranty.
