Pccb Ceramic Brakes
Although I have heard of ceramics cracking with a wheel/tire change, how likely is this really?
I ask because I always get a set of winter wheels/tires and therefore change twice a year...

Judging from some of the posts in this thread, it sounds like you would have been better off spending your money mounting spider monkeys at all four corners, with their *** cheeks spread over the steel discs, and a little LCD screen in front of each of their faces that lights up with a picture of Scott in H-town every time you hit the brakes, so that they immediately clamp their *** cheeks shut hard to prevent forced entry again . . .

I dont see why this would even be an issue, for about $3-$4 you can buy some armor all, eagle one, mothers or and brand of wheels cleanerthat are safe for painted wheels and clear coat and spray it on, rinse off in a couple of minutes and not spend one minute wiping the wheels except to dry. and for the money you spend for PCCB I would rather buy a lifetime supply of wheel cleaner and have some $$$ left over.
Not saying PCCB's arent worth the money, just that brake dust shouldnt be a factor.

Actually, I think that's the $34K option. Too rich for my blood.

great writeup...thanks
[quote=treynor]Think of it this way - the braking system is only as strong as its weakest link. From 60 MPH with an otherwise-normal braking system, both a steel-rotor and PCCB-rotor 997 can lock all 4 tires solid, and more to the point can keep all 4 tires at the limit of adhesion all the way down to 0 mph. Thus, even a hypothetical infinitely-powerful braking system (or "IPBS") would be no better - you are limited by tire traction and the car's setup. In general, in street situations, even a moderately good brake setup will give you all the braking power you will ever need. Can understand some of what you say. However, take my earlier '03 vette. I was unhappy with the braking power, so I got some softer pads (so-called police issue type pads). Now the vette stops in shorter distances. Also with Porsches, putting on "softer, more grippy" Brembo pads will stop the Porsche in a shorter distance than the factory pads. When I was going to order the ceramics, the dealer said the factory-pads for street-driving were not as good as the new softer pads that Porsche recommends for street driving. dealer assured me that factory pads found with ceramics are mainly for the track where excess repeated braking is common. If what you are saying is true, why do these "more grippy" pads stop porsches, etc in shorter distances??
Appreciate your input because soon I will be installing some more responsive (for shorter distance stops) Brembo pads on my '07tt.
