in the MT article-ferrari must be pissed

For the record, the almost-affordable Ferrari F430 was eliminated because the GT3 outperforms it in all our standard handling tests-for $60,000 less.

GT3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heres what andrelli said about the GT3

Porsche 911 GT3
Best lap (MIN:SEC): 1:39.517
81.0 mph avg
1.69g peak lateral acceleration

"The Porsche 911 GT3, to me, is perfect. I wouldn't change anything. I like the engine, the handling, the [ceramic] brakes. This is the car every race driver would like to have on the rack. It's neutral and has a wide powerband, the brakes are stable, it's well balanced, it has good traction. It's perfect." Angelelli also admitted that even with all his experience, he probably only probed 85 to 90 percent of this car's astounding limits, and he opined that its behavior probably becomes unpredictable at the limits-especially under power. When asked whether a Cayman with the same engine, brakes, and tires wouldn't be better still, he fretted about its less rigid chassis. We'd sure love the chance to try that option.

also, each statical piece of data about easily beat the z06.

My preference for the 997TT is not any more elitist than the Chevy guy's preference for the Vette over the Mustang.

If you want to see a very good review of the Z06 check out the link below. I think this is one of the most subjective reviews out there. It points out the weaknesses of the ZO6 (and there are many) while highlighting the car's prowess around the track.

http://media.putfile.com/Top-Gear-Z06

And it describes perfectly why I would never drive a 'Vette

"Vettes are like boy bands....they have good looks, they're cheap, they make nice noise in the middle of the road type of way and they are usually talentless and a bit flimsy".

"The radio is rubbish, the tire roar is horrendous, the gearbox is from a tractor, the interior trim is woeful, you break your back when you run over anything."

I am not sure what the reviewer means at the end when he says he rather drive a bird flute every day than a Z06???

The Z06 is an unrefined beast. It's a Mustang on steroids.

Meant to say the video is one of the most objective reviews.

Considering the accolades that these 2 cars have accumulated, and that the GT3 recently was called "best handling car in America" or some such title by another mag, a few comments:

One, maybe test driver just pushed some cars beyond the limit of adhesion, then complained about it, or worse, doesn't know what he's doing.

Two, the tt is also criticized for "lift throttle oversteer"; it is in good company indeed!

Three, goes to show, you have to take every review article with a table sized grain of salt.

Four, IMHO, the turbo is not built with the track in mind (the GT3 is), no big deal that a whole bunch of cars beat it at the track. There will be more track "losses" (Nissan GT-R comes to mind) since this is not what the turbo is MAINLY designed for, at least in its stock form.
There is one possible remedy to the GT3 debacle. If it did in fact have MPSC's on it, they are hard to get hot, and from the looks of it doing only three laps at a time the tires were certainly not warm, if the lap times did not improve drastically from the first lap to the last there is a good chance the MPSC's were just not warm at all.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but if I know a track very well, lift mid turn is not what I want to do and I dont buy the Lift Oversteer for the Turbo.

I dont expect the turbo to be the fastest thing at the track at all, but running even with a GT500 is pathetic by any stretch of the imagination.

THE GT500 IS ONLY 4 SECONDS BEHIND THE GT3, SO IF THE GT500 HAD MPSC'S IT SHOULD CONCIEVABLY BE ALMOST EVEN WITH THE GT3???????

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Seriously, If C&D had left out the GT500 this article would have been somewhat belevable, since no one really drives that course, but that is a dead giveaway to me.

LOL and people keep talking about there being three drivers, well the video on C&D says those drivers are in fact editors of the magazine, which isnt very confidence inspiring to think that they would have three editors with sustantial road racing experience.

2K799T, I didnt mean anything offensive by my post, I just dont like the "so what you beat me, I get to drive home in a BMW,Porsche, Benz, etc" argument that people use so often.

Corvettes are love or hate type of car,it's something you know as soon as you sit in one. I love vettes but dont care much for the C6Z to own for myself, unless it was a dedicated track car, which I would always worry about it breaking somewhere.

VelocityC6 is infamous around these parts
The crying coming from this forum is unreal, glad to see the usual complaints of the vette interior and refinment finally come out when the Z06 cleans up the competitors on the track. This was a purely performance driven comparison/test of a bunch of cars, the vettes performance given runflat tires shows just how potent they are on the track.

and why would you say this? is the m6 just a heavy pig as well?

i am not saying the gt500 is faster than the c6z or 997tt or the gt3. just saying it handles better than people believe and can compete at the track with the correct driver!

Is your reason for joining here to just to post in this thread? Yeah I thought so. When you get some track experience and know something about lap times then come back and post, until then, shutup. Go back and join the Mag racer dogpile at CF.

hmmm...is that why the GT3/RS both won BEST HANDLING AND BEST CAR FOR THE F*CKING ROAD AND TRACK? and is that why it beat out the z06 handily, and is that why the z06 was actually even ranked 3rd after it was beaten out not only by the GT3, but also the cayman s. you joined this forum for one reason. leave or shut up!

Guts,

Please check out the MT articel I mentioned. Sorry but don't have the mag now.

Mike

Guys,

Check out the June issue of Motor Trend, they have a good article on the best handling Sports cars with GOOD engineering facts. Max Angelelli (Grand Am Daytona Prototype Pontiac Riley and Cady CTS-V driver nickname "Max the Ax!") is the test driver at Laguna Sega. BTW the GT3 was the fastest car in the hands of Angelelli (even though he drives a GM powered Riley) and he commented he would not change a single thing in the car, not the same with all the others. He did like the Z06 as well but was not as fast in his hands as the GT3. Anyway adds some credibility to eclou's note on C&D and their drivers.

Mike
