Engine Problems Already!
Engine Problems Already!
Engine light went on and I took my 5 week old Black 997TT daily driver to McKenna to see what was wrong. Already put on about 5k on it. Found out it was a throttle body hose was split. Part is coming in from Germany. That was 11 days ago and I still don't have my car. To make it worse, McKenna doesn't loan fleet cars for loaners and outsoured all loaners to Hertz. I've been driving around in a Chevy Cobalt in the meanwhile. Anyone else have similar experiences? Now im nervous about modding it and voiding my warranty.
When my new TT came off the truck there were two problems,, the back tail fin didnt work and there was a split hose.
I got a bit assertive with the dealership and they ended up taking the parts off another new black turbo after ordering the parts from Germany. The parts arrived within 5 days and were immediately put on the new black tip TT.
I was offered either a Non-S Cayenne or a Non S Cayman (tip) and I passed since I d rather drive my 5 speed Toyota.
They will make good on your car and do is as fast as possible.
I thought all P Dealers have dedicated Porsche's to loan out for warranty repairs. I am surprised at your plight this since the 3 Dealers I have purchased from all have offered me P Cars as loaners when I was in for repairs.

Really? My 996 just got off warranty...bought it at McKenna....in 3 years...NEVER did I get a Porsche loaner...always the crappy rental..when I gave them **** about it, because they had the car for 20 days the first month I bought it, they gave me an "upgraded" rental. The loaners they did have were Audis, not Porsches....

Can't believe it. After 14 days in the shop I finally got my car back. Driving it home for work and accelerating in 3rd gear, my car completely died. Felt like I hit the rev limiter, but I wasn't going nearly that fast. The throttle just cut out and I had to get towed to back to the dealer. Now its sitting in McKenna's service lane now waiting to get checked out tomorrow. Pretty ridiculous. Hopefully not another 14 days in a Cobalt.
Wow. Sorry to hear about your string of bad luck. I am convinced that with all the electronic gadgets on today's cars, it doesn't matter what you own, you will run the risk of having problems. From a Dodge Neon to a Ferrari.
As far a Porsche loaners go. When I owned my CaymanS and had it in for a door lock problem under warranty, Rockville Porsche did not give me a loaner. I rented a car from Enterprise that they have on site. Complete bull****. Now, when I had my Chevy truck in for routine service work, my Chevy dealer gave me a loaner. Now, with my Z06 purchase, when the Z goes in for service they already told me they will give me a Tahoe for the day. If this very small GM dealer can do it, I am pretty damn sure a Pcar dealer can do it too.

I hope they get it resolve - nothing worse than wondering about what is going on with your car especially being so new. Also nothing more embarassing to be stuck on the side of the road because sometimes it tends to fuel those who look at the cars as "excessive".
I had the similiar experience on my first 996TT in 01 when I purchased it. It has so many problems and I wasn't happy with the service, the car at the time and also the crappy rentals they put me in. I was treated like I wasn't worthy of their repeat customers status. Several times I saw cars being checked in and they said they were already taken by prior appointments and when I was in the service area I would overhear some people just coming in for a problem and getting the car. I raised hell about it and all I got was a "sorry" must have been a miscommunication. Needless to say the dealer bought the car back in full and up until last year I didn't even look at the porsche's. With Lexus and BMW I have never gotten anything but a Lexus or BMW - EVER. My reps would always make sure there was a car for me even when I didn't purchase the car from them.
I have heard many of these stories with porsche and some of the dealers. I have relayed my poor experience to my salesman at Hennessey and I hope they can change my opinion of the service. Only time will tell.

Update...After a few more days in the shop and McKenna having to call corporate for help, they've discovered (or decided) that the problem was a screw that holds the impeller on the turbo "came" loose and ruined the turbo, which caused it to leak oil. Now they're replacing both turbos. I don't even have an estimate, for when I'll have an estimate for how long this repair will take.
I'm speculating that when they were replacing $50 vacuum hose, but removed the entire engine from the car, they managed to loosen the screw that ruined the turbo.
Any suggestions out there???

I believe CA Lemon Laws are such that if your car is in the shop for defects for more than 50 calendar days, the car can be deemed a lemon and you are entitled to a full refund. That is what I did with my M3 a few years ago. Check the Lemon Laws.
