When should the 997 GT2 Style Body kits start hitting the market. After watching the videos of the new 997 GT2 I want the rear front ans side skirts. Those rear fins are incredible!!!

From what some have said to me and some have said on the board I think it would require that you provide a valid VIN # to get them. I hope that is not the case but so far it's been what I have been told.

I can live without the tail and the rear but I like the sides and especially the front.

Agreed!! I'm sure it'll be available or some aftermarket manufacturer will come up with it and I hope they do (for my C2S).

I hope they require VINs...I think one of the reasons the 996 GT2 did not do so well (on resale) is too many 996TTs had GT2 kits on taking away from the exclusivity.

I thionk Porsche will try o keep each mpodel seperate this time round (e.g. C4S no longer shares exterior styling with TT)

 

Requiring a VIN, is IMO stupid, if they really want to differentiate the GT2 from the TT they better put some more power available (bigger VTG turbos ?)

Then trying to keep "exclusivity" by means of a spoiler that any aftermarket Company can easily duplicate

Looking at the additional $$$$, I do not think the 997 GT2 is going to be any different from the 996 GT2 compared to the 996TT, the GT2 depreciated way more then the TT looking back they should have made the difference bigger then the 50hp it is now which can be easily duplicated on the TT for far less $$

IMO right now the question is just if you want to spend the extra $$$ for RWD over AWD

I have never liked the idea of people buying kits to make their cars look like the more expensive models. Regardless of their reasons why.

When I owned an e46 M3 (before my daughter came into the world) we bimmer owners would laugh at reg 3-series owners who would try to pull that. But in the porsche world it seems acceptable up until you start copying the badging. Ie, removing turbo badge and replacing with "GT2" etc.

Am I the only one that thinks it's lame to makes ones car look like something that it's not?

 

NoroomforError, I normally agree with you, but since a lot of people do not like the front of the TT, changing it for a GT2 or "lesser" GT3 is IMO not doing what you implied

IMO Porsche never differentiated the GT2 enough from the TT for the additional $$$$$, and faster depreciation on the GT2 IMO goes a long way proofing that point

You are generalizing the "something that it's not" when it comes to people wanting the GT2 front. I do not want my car to be a GT2 - I just so happen to like the front better than my TURBO. I will not rebadge it or call it by another name. In the BMW world the e46's looked vastly different from the E46 M3's and you couldn't copy it for cheap.

Just because Porsche came out with the front that we like better doesn't mean we are trying to make it a GT2. So if I put on the GT3 front nose ( which I would have if the labor charges were not out of this world for the conversion ) then am I pretending to be a GT3? The GT2 front is a cheaper conversion since it will fix on the Turbo much easier. That is one of the main reasons. If the GT3 nose would fit without 40-60 hours of labor - many more would have converted since it's a nice looking front nose.

The beauty of modification is that it never ends and there will always be something out there that someone else will like more than the other.

Looks does not depeciate value on a car - lets get that out of the way. The GT2 in the 996 replica did not cause the downward spiral of the prices. If you think that then please take a course in supply and demand.

The price of the GT2's fell because they had room to fall and they didn't make them exclusive enough. Look at the 993 GT2 - they blow the doors off the 996 GT2 resale. They are collectors and the demand is HIGH on these. Much like the RS 964's and a few others.

Also as some have mentioned that the price for the little HP that you get over stock and less HP than a ECU tuned one made the decline on them fall hard and then not making them exclusive enough also hurt the resale. Look at the 996 Turbo's and I hope they don't kill the 997 Turbos with over production.

Only time will tell.
