My 997 Turbo Tip has 2200 miles and the computer still reads a full three bars. I have a 2006 C4S six speed that has used at least 2 quarts during the initial break in (2000 miles), and has consistently consumed oil through 5000 miles.

What is everybodys experience with oil consumption with the Turbo?

 

I used about 1.5 quarts during first 2000 miles, then about 2.5 quarts for next 7000 miles. I've done about 6-7 track days along the way, so that might affect my consumption.

 

My 2007 997 Turbo used a quart of Mobil 1 0W-40 every thousand miles or so, up until I traded it in at 30,000 miles for a 2010 Turbo, 20 quarts of oil later. I couldn't stand the way the engine used so much oil and I was very conscientious breaking it in, using varying engine loads. I had an '03 996 Turbo which had the same excessive oil consumption.
Synthetic oil with Nikasil liners don't work well together, I guess, but have never heard anyone else remark about this.
Happily, Porsche abandoned the Nikasil liners on the new 3.8 l Turbo engine and use Alusil cylinders instead. After 4500 miles, the oil gauge still measures at the top of the bar.

 

wow, 6,000 miles on my 997.2. Serviced at 4,500, oil reading has always been full. It is warm in southern florida, I've only tracked her once, but haven;'t added an ounce of oil to her yet......................

I have about 8,400 miles on my '09 and it never needed any oil. It was broken in as it is driven today - city/highway driving with occasional sprints.

My E60 M5 was a thirsty pig though - used to burn about a quart every 1,500 miles.

 

I have a '06 K1200 R BMW motorcycle with Nikasil cylinder liners. For that model, BMW switched to petroleum based oil instead of synthetic. That bike doesn't burn any oil. My previous bike, a '95 BMW R 1100RS, again with Nikasil cylinders, used more than a quart of synthetic oil every thousand miles, up til I traded it in at 65.000 miles.

Any one else had experience with the Alusil verses Nikasil and oil consumption?

 

My car uses 1 quart around every 2000 miles of Mobil 1 0W-40. I have recently switched to Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel and will see how that goes.

I bought my 08 TT in May with 8,000 miles. It now has 13,000 miles and 9 track days. Have not had to add a drop yet. Gotta tell ya, I'm a little suspicious about these electronic dip sticks........

 

I have a 2007 997 TT with 26,000 miles and rarely do I have to add oil. My 2005 997S on the other hand burned a quart every 1200 miles.

 

switched from mobil 0-40 to Redline 5-40 and definitely using less oil. Conincedence? age of car, miles? who knows.

 

997.2 Turbo S- haven't used any oil in 6000 miles.

 

First oil change at 4,000 miles; switched to Lubromoly 5w-40...have 8500 miles and monitor still shows full capacity. Have never added any oil between changes. Broke in the car by driving it from Miami, FL to Baton Rouge, LA in one day...interestingly enough, the owners manual states the break-in procedure should include "long distance" driving if possible...(I've always subscribed to the "hard" break-in theory and did some hard pulls on the FL - LA journey).

 

I have around 4300 miles on my 2010 Turbo and have not burned any oil to date.
