You guys were nice enough to put me at ease on my last thread about my oil problem. However, the problem still continues. This morning I started driving my car with 2300 miles or so and my check oil light came on again. I put another quart in and it is fine now. What can make this happen? This is my previous thread below. Lately I have been in a lot of stop and go traffic. Could this be part of the problem? I haven't been driving it hard, what's this about? 2 quarts in 2300 miles seem WRONG!

I put 2 quarts in my TT in the first 2500 miles, I had an oil change at 3000 miles (was a little low at this point), and now I'm up to 4500 miles, and oil is still peaked, with some aggressive driving, it's most likely just breaking in, you are probably just stressing over nothing.

Even if the car continues to burn oil forever, it's not completely unexpected for a sportscar, however.

 

I put a quart in at 1500 and one in at 2750 - never seen a drop on the garage floor. I'm told this normal.

 

My experience is virtually identical to this. Uses less than my M5 did.

 

Most likely "break in" .

Also, consider yourself lucky ... 997TT uses 0W40, Mobil 1, which is available at many places (eg, Sams Club sells it by the case by me - the Exxon station sells it as well, etc), and it is sold at a reasonable price. My M3 before used 10W60 which cost much more and was impossible to find anywhere except a BMW dealer.

If you haven't already, you should carry a spare bottle of 0W40 and a funnel in your trunk.

 

the synthetic oil we use is like water, tts eat it up. the more power = more oil

 

What's the technical reason this happens? Is it the friction burning it away?

1qt every 1700 miles or so, although didn't use a drop at the track recently.

 

Oil slips past the seals on the pistons and into the cylinders and is combusted with fuel/air mixture. This happens most on engines that are still breaking in, and when engines are being forced to work at wide open throttle/high rpm, and especially so with multiple factors.

The seals get tighter in the first 3000 or so miles.
