While test driving a 997s, I was told by the salesperson that the engines are run for 5 min at redline at the factory. Fact or fiction? If that is true, would a break in with occasional loading/revving of the engine past 4k rpm's be such a bad idea? I've never followed the "no revs over certain rpm range" break in and can't say that any of my cars suffered because of it, they all seemed to have a very healthy output after a few thousand miles. I didn't abuse the cars, all "partial throttle", not full. Loading to higher rpm's were after the cars were warmed up and doing it with a heat up/cool down cycles, meaning carefully taking the rpms up and then going easy on it for a while. That included a Z06, E36 and E46 M3's, an X5, a 535 and a 550i but I've never owned a Porsche before. Don't think I would have the patience with the 997 either. What do you guys think? Do all of you follow the factory recommended break in?
