Worst Commute EVER
Worst Commute EVER
I posted this on Rennlist earlier this week but wanted to share my C4S snow ordeal....
So there was a snow storm in Boston on Thursday. Now ordinarily I feel like Boston and its residents understand what to do when there is a storm, but for some reason this first storm of the season brought out the amateur in us.
The first pic says it all: it took me nearly 4 hours to drive less than 6 miles to get home from work averaging less than 2 mph and as many MPG. People just abandoned their cars everywhere....in all my years as a New Englander, I have never seen anything like this. Cars were just left for dead w/o even the flashers on. When I started home from work, the car had zero snow on it (it was in a garage)....by the time I got home there were at least four inches on the front hood.
I must say that my C4S absolutely rocked today in the snow....I mean it really rocked. The snow was fairly deep in places and while many cars were stuck/being pushed, my car had absolutely zero traction trouble. I just love my car more and more every day.
I still cannot figure out how 10" of snow caused such a disaster in Boston where people usually know what the hell they're doing in the snow.
I saw two cars that were stuck that I could clearly see had bald tires! A good Samaritan decided to help jump start someone by parking about 2 feet away from the stranded person's car. The two cars took up so much of the road that I watched as a school bus tried to squeeze by and wedged himself up against the Samaritan's vehicle. I could not get over the fact that some people were blasting their horns. At one intersection, some POS in a ricer in front of me got out of his car and threw a snowball at a traffic cop - he fortunately had terrible aim. As I approached the cop, I offered the POS's license plate number - the cop thanked me but basically said he had bigger fish to fry.
Yes,....it was my worst worst worst commute ever!
For anyone wondering about the last pic,....I run 18" Turbo Twist knock-offs with winter contis courtesy of Damon@TireRack.

You'd be surprised how good these cars are in the snow when properly shoed.
I am from MA and love the Northeast,...including its weather! In the best of all worlds, I would have another car for winter (wife uses the Cayenne), but I have one parking space...on the other hand, I really do enjoy using my car year round.

I am glad you made it home safely and that no one hit you! It is wonderful to hear that our cars are so capable in such bad weather!
Now I know if it snows 4 inches here in the SF Bay Area at least my car will be ready! lol

I have heard horror stories where guys try their AWD STi or Evo with performance tires in the snow and end up in a ditch.
