Doesn't the sport mode activate the hard rev limiter? Or is it the other way around? I forgot.

Either way, that may be the best way to avoid these over revs.

How is it possible to rev these engines, on misdownshifts I'm guessing, in the upper ranges without blowing the hell out of them???

This is not difficult to figure out. Mechanical over-revs can result in astronomical rpm's. It is doubtful that a range 3 or greater over-rev will occur without a missed downshift. I believe that a range 4 or greater can result in a bent connecting rod or worse. Big mistake, a 997S motor in the shipping crate is $20K+.

The hard rev limiter can only help you on the way up - not on the way down with a mis-shift.
