Who came from a 996 and now in a 997? Anyone go backwards?
Just curious, I have read some nice articles speaking to the differences between the 997 from the 996 and improvements etc.. but just curious from people that have had real life experience going from 996 to 997 what they like most...or the few things. Finally anyone sell their 997 to go backwards to a 996 for any reason? I never owned a 996 but was very very close to buying a 2003 C4s but went with a non S 997 instead..... Thanks
i wouldn't know i only driven my car 997s so can't answer your question. But i would assume the 997 is better. It's like why get the older gen car unless you're going down to a 996 turbo
996TT for the pure speed freak and mod hog.
997 for the new looks, normally aspirated engine, 2wd, and fun factor.
All that being said, I was at a point of thinking about selling my car. I took a look at the 996TT, gave it another test drive, but just couldn't do it (I drove a modded one and damn that thing was fast!). I really like my interior, exterior, and the normally aspirated feel of the 997. I figured I could just mod my current car, and wait for a used 997TT one day in the future.

When the 997 came out I knew it was a matter of time for me to sell the 2003 cab and get a 997.
I didnt know that I would end up with a turbo.
I drove a 2007 Cab S and really liked it but loaded up its not that far off from a turbo so I took the plunge.
I cant compared a C2 996 with the 997 TT since they are so different but I love the looks of the 997.
My black cab wasnt too shabby either..

Scuzy:
I dream of going to a 997. I just got into the 996 just a few months ago and as always newer is simply better. That is about true with anything except guitars, LOL.
Anyway, I hope to climb to the 997 eventually. Be sure to save on for me!

Newer is better cant be more true than when your comparing the 996 to the 997 but I must admit I am totally happy with my 99. In fact my next car should be a 04 GT3! Im not even thinking 997. Not for ahile anyway : )~

I went from a 996 to a Z06 to a 997S. Having the Z06 between the two Porsches probably clouded my memory but the 997 feels a bit tighter and more refined than the 996. They handle the same but the 997S is noticeably more powerful. And, personally, I like the looks of the 997 better, particularly the interior. I don't miss the 996 (or the Z06 for that matter).
I had two 996 cars . A 2000 as well as a 2002 but would not even consider looking back . I have since them bought three 997 cars . Two "S" cars and one Turbo and buy far the 997 blew it away in every way ranging from performance to build quality (exterior and interior) .
If I had to look back at previous Porsches there are two which still spark my interest --the 95 993 I had and the 96 Turbo .
In my opinion the 993 Turbo was the car abouve all with stood out at that time because most other cars could not even be seen in the rear view mirror . It's timeless design and traditional air cooled engine along with the offset quirky pedals make that model the Porsche worth remembering to me. Nowadays with the HP numbers coming out of so many cars Porsche has its fair share of compeitors .

When my 4 year old wants to go out in Dad's Porsche I tell him no snacks. If you want snacks we take the Allroad.

Went from 997 C2S to 997 GT3 to 996 turbo.
All are great cars. Would I have liked a 997 turbo? You bet, but I really like the 996 turbo. Talk about bang for the buck. I would not hesitate to go from 996 to 997 or vice versa. Almost any perceived shortcoming (eg suspension, interior, etc) can be taken care of with mods.
