Pirelli Winter Sottozeros will fit on those wheels. But your wheels will take a beating from the ice and salt, and winter's almost over. I hope. Drive the X5.

Agreed. I'm in my '04 4.4 daily and am getting pretty tired of it (pretty nice rig to be in, actually). Paul, keep that white stuff in Salt Lake; it keeps blowin' into Denver and I want to drive the P-car. Ah, soon now.

There are 19" snows for Porsche (Pirelli and Michelin, I believe), but the big wheels and tires can only take so much mounting and dismounting. Plus figure on $125 or so each time you change tires. I bought a set of take offs from Porsche of Naples complete with sensors so I don't need to worry about it. I have Michelin Pilot Alpins on 18" Carrera IIIs. I use Turbo Wheels for the summer. The snows cost around $1500.

PS: You shouldn't be on summer tires in less than 40 degrees or so. It's not just the tread, but the compound that is summer only. It's unsafe, even in the dry.

As do I and so far my experiences have been very good with them.
Spring is arriving here and the snow is melting, with 6"-8" of pure slush they're still able to pull thru the snow whereas I've witnessed a few other cars getting stuck in similar conditions.
The car is a Carrera 4.

Here's a pic to give you an idea of the roads they're being driven on daily:

love the picture.. thank you all very much now at least i know what i need to do, i went to porsche of huntington yesterday and they told me it would be about $1600 to put on the pirelli OEM winter tires, i am going to shop around and see what others are selling them for, ideally i would like to keep my rims on all year round. i would love to find a set of "take offs" from a dealer, that would definately be cool as well.

i definately know that i shouldnt be driving with the summers in the winter.

thank you again everyone.
have a great day,
Steven

Summer Tires

You can ride Summer tires in winter IF and ONLY IF:

1. Roads are totally dry and you can see the surfaces.

2. You warm them up a little (use TPMS if you have it to check).

3. Don't drive like you are at a DE event.

4. Finally, weather forecast is ZERO chance of precipitation for time you are out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are basically playing chicken with the weather but it can be done relatively safely if you use good common sense

Jeez, I thought I was the only one out there in a 997 C2 w/ summers during that storm on Tuesday. Glad to hear you got home safely. I drove across the 59th St bridge in that single lane on the lower level - with nobody in front of me in that lane, I was driving way too fast for this car in those conditions - 8 mph. White knuckled the whole way as the car was not finding great traction, with 1 week old PS2's on it. As soon as I made it across the bridge, I pulled immediately into the first parking garage - the Queens Plaza self-park. It wasn't exactly a comforting feeling when I got out of the car and saw NYPD posters everywhere in the garage warning about car theft. The train got me home safe and sound that night. The next morning, with fingers crossed, I found my car still in the garage exactly how I left it...

If there's ever a chance of snow, I will definitely not take the Porsche unless I get snow tires for it- I've certainly learned my lesson...

Winter tyres are the way to go. Just got back from Camp4S in Finland and couldn't believe that the cars only had winter tread, no studs (not needed). Here are some pics!

I live in Finland and drive daily my 997 C4s. I have ContiWinterContact Ts810 295/30 R 19 in the rear and they're great.
