I doubt that the increase in HP is true. As said above, the X51 option adds 26 HP and yet, the poster above states that PSE can add 20 HP alone!

The GT3 comes with the sport exhaust and Porsche clearly states that when sport mode is on that there is an increase in torque. You think they wouldn't do the same with the Carrrera?

The OP asked opinions concerning PSE and the thread has degenerated into a thread about how great PSE is- complete with untruths. There is no documented HP gains; aftermarket exhausts are not all junk pieces made in a garage; the opening/closing of valves has nothing to do with increasing backpressure; PSE is not the only good sounding exhaust.

PSE is great, but there are other options. No reason to color it.

Agreed, I think that 911Rocks should go to the dealer and hear a PSE system, as well as try and source out people in the same city as him to hear aftermarket systems (if he can find them at this time of year, lots of snow in Montreal)

Absolutely, 100% untrue. Whoever told you this was either ignorant or a liar.

Pse

Hey Guys!
Is the PSE part of the Sport Chrono package? Will it be listed as a special option? I have the sport button and a light comes on when I push it. Thanks for the help?

No - The light simply indicates that the thottle has been remapped and if you have PASM (Standard on the S) it firms up the suspension.

Is the PSE available as a dealer fitted accessory? I'd like more noise, but would never fit a non-genuine part to the car.

Yes it is.
I had mine retrofitted at the dealer .
If you have Sport chrono , you already have the activation switch ( the Sport switch )
If not, a new switch panel with an additional switch ( the dual exhaust symbol ) is available. That will add ~ 1.5 hrs to the install time however.

You also get new polished st.stl. exhaust tips as part of the PSE , since it is a true dual pipe exhaust and the original tips won't fit.

Just to be clear on JCS's point, it is a true dual pipe on each side - 4 outlets in all. On the standard 997S (and the aftermarket systems), it is a "fake" quad exhaust - which is kind of ricey on Porsche's part.

Thanks guys. JCS, are you happy with the upgrade? Any downsides? For example, is cold start hugely noisy compared to stock?

My wife loves the 911 because it doesn't wake the neighbourhood when I leave for Sunday morning runs like my Gallardo did.

When not driving aggressively, it's pretty quiet ,at least at lower speeds.

Also, the bypass valves automatically close when you step on it at speed below ~ 50 mph ( due to noise requirements in some countries )
Above that, they stay open (and when open , the sound is great )

Of course, if you get the full install ( with the switch ) the great thing is that you can deactivate it for a quiet ride and it will be just like the regular exhaust .You can't do that with any other system.

I highly recommend it and I would definitely get it again .

As others have said, the sound is throaty and gurgles nicely--not too extreme. I'm not 100% certain about horsepower gains, but if you switch the 'sport' button off mid-acceleration, you can feel a distinct drop in the 'pull' as the valve closes and the muffler becomes noticably quieter.
