Nagging PSM Failure
Nagging PSM Failure
Does anyone have problems with a PSM failure alert? I did a search and it seems like people who receive this alert almost always have something wrong with ABS --- or electrical gremlins. I don't think mine is either since ABS works fine (w/ no alert or anything) and the failure only comes on when on the freeway and I hit a pothole or the reflectors dividing lanes. UGH.

PSM ABS issue on my car was the Turbo vacuum
The problem with these lights is that they are so dang generic, about one step up from a "check engine" light. There are probably about 10 things (at least) that could be wrong including: a brake light switch (lights go on when you brake), MAF issues (happens when you accelerate), or mine which is supposedly a Turbo vacuum box issue (I'll get the exact verbiage later). Mine happens when I accelerate and the car's performance changes drastically from day to day (I think only 1 turbo is kicking in or something). They ordered the part from Germany yesterday so in a week or so I'll have it installed and let you know for sure.
Funny enough....guess they put on the wrong tires in the front! RE050 pole position versus N0. Had N0 in the back and PP in the front....threw off PSM! Beware anyone getting these tires...make sure the put on the porsche specific N0s!
I've had some psm action after putting the RE050 on the back will PZero's on the front. With the Pirelli's all around the car was awesome. now it feels a bit off balance and I have the psm coming on. I've wondered about mixing makers, but wasn't aware that Porsche only used certain brands re the psm. kindly explain?
Dealer explained that the PP, due to tread pattern, makes the entire front wheel 1" shorter in diameter than the rears (I have 19s)....so at slow speeds, the wheel speeds would be off front vs rear causing the PSM to fail. I'm far from technical, but the guys at Firestone fixed this free of charge. I'm thinking that mix/matching tires would cause the same problem here....
this could be the problem. the psm kicks in on tight corners if I'm pushing just a little. no problem on the straights. I probably should have put matching Pirelli's on the back. Option now is to kill the psm on twisty roads, which I've done and there's no problem, and then replace the fronts when the backs are ready. or, to take off the Pirelli's and put on new PP's to match the rear. I may need to wait out the back tires, which will wear out about 3 to 1 to the fronts. Too many $s in the PP's to not use them.

yep - my failure light only came on when turning and hitting lane divider bumps or cornering. i noticed you do have a C4S though....dealer said that this **MIGHT** affect the AWD system. he said that the C2S would be fine...
