More Mods, or skip to SC?
More Mods, or skip to SC?
I have an '05 997 with 23k miles on it, and already have an ECU Flash, Fabspeed Mufflers, and the RSS plenum.
I am considering adding AWE headers & cats, EVO intake, and a GIAC flash.
My question is, should I bother with any of this, or just skip ahead and SuperCharge it?

Supercharging is definitely the way to go...If you are concerned about warranty issues (or leased the car), then I'd go with the other mods you mentioned. Instead of the GIAC flash, I'd go with the Softronic. I have the GIAC flash currently and am about to make the switch over to Softronic - it seems to be showing better results and you can always switch back to the stock map if necessary.
those mods don't do anything other than make you poorer. Supercharge is the way to go. Especially since your warranty will be up soon anyway

Instead of little mods that will cost alot of money, just get the power you are after and supercharge it !
No substitute for forced induction.
Someone needs to start another group buy on these !

I heard of a shop that if we get 5 kits sold we may get a better deal but not sure if thet are allowed to do "group buys' however.

How about discussing what exactly would not be covered under warranty if you had a supercharger. If you chose to add an extended warranty and then supercharge it, what things would still be covered and what would not be? Many things that can go wrong due to age are not necessarily the results of a supercharger and should be covered under warranty.
A supercharger is great and so are twin turbos. Now these would both eliminate a factory warranty with out a doubt. Basically for the highest HP gains you would void the factory warranty. I have built many 1000hp twin turbo engines for customers that just want the power.
Simply saying that having a SC installed voids the factory warrantee is stroking with way too broad a brush. The warrantee will be affected for those parts deemed damaged or broken exclusively because of the superchargers use.
That would be determined by Porsche. A supercharger is very simple by design and basically increases the charged air into the engine thus raising the compression ratio. These engines are designed for greater performance than they have coming from the factory. At what point they reach design limit and beyond is open to interpretation. However, VF-engineering/ EVOMS has decided that 6 PSI boost is within the engine operating envelope. (Of course you have to use hi octane fuel or expect detonation.)
Fortunately there are lots of 996’s with these superchargers that have not had any issues or problems irt things breaking due to the sc. More and more 997’s are coming on line now also and the initial assessment is the same. As long as you stay in the 6 PSI max boost range and use a centrifugal supercharger that mimics the basic engine torque curve you are probably going to be just fine.
There are many here on 6-speed that have them and if there were engine or drive train problems you would certainly be reading about them here.
Bang for the buck, it’s the best performance mod you can get.
Well except for the plenum of course. :-)
