I think I finally found my 997! Good deal or not?
I want to wish you the best with this car . I read the posts but see the emotional component of the car purchase and that's really what buying a Porsche is about .
I feel that if you pass this up you'll always have the what if thoughts about the car .
hey
trust me borther, i have been shopping around for awhile and something finally came up with mild usage and the right price. Most importantly, the car seems to be in great condition. I have spoke to my credit union ( Pentagon Fed Credit Union) and they are offering 4.25% financing over 72 mos. Also, they have an extended warranty which covers all mechanical and electrical over 4 yrs and 60 miles for $2400 or $35 a month.
Thoughts on this?
Putting down $8k on $48k
Payments = $630

Just out of curiosity, were the brakes upgraded? Pictures make it appear that, at least on the front, the calipers are red. In any event, looks to be a nice car and, assuming a PPI checks out, I'd buy it if I were you and not look back. Good luck.
And you might remember I suggested months back to you that this was your best route to go and I stood alone on that thread too . I know it was not an easy (or inexpensive) decision but now that you are here with that new car do you have any regrets ? Pr are you still beaming with new car happiness ?
I have 39k on my 05 997S (December 04 production). I plan on keeping this car until the new generation comes out (2011 ??). Although this was an early production 997, this car has been very reliable. My only thoughts are to be sure it has been maintained properly. My car requires only a 20k service. I changed my oil every 10k. Your car is due for a 40k service. I would take the car to another dealer for a check up and have them do the 40k service. Try to get the seller to pay for it.
Most importantly, make sure that the car was not hit. Once body work has been done, the value depreciates. Check a Carfax.
Since the car is still under factory warranty, it is very unlikely that there are hidden mechanical issues, unless of course they were caused by an accident.
Good luck!

I'm sure it's not the case with Dgtbullets car but it does make a point about trusting carfax as an absolute word .

The worst thing you can do to mechanical things is to let them sit. You need to drive your cars, fly your planes and run your mechanical things regularly. 39k on a car is nothing these days, you can drive it for years, maintain it, use it, enjoy it. Use it up like it was meant to be used and ditch it when you are sick of it or rebuild it if you like it.
I have two 356 Porsches that have hundreds of thousands of miles on them and they are hardly suffering from depreciation. The Roadster is over 200,000 miles and these are old engines and old technology.
My 911S had 6500 miles on it when I bought it. It was a 2005 and I bought it two months ago. It now has 11,000 on it and I couldn't care less how many miles I put on it. I don't use it for a daily driver but I get in it every chance I get.
Remember, your life is getting used up too, you had better enjoy things while you can. You buy a car to experience it not just look at it. Otherwise one may just as well collect Faberge eggs or watches or Barbie dolls.
Buy the car, if you don't like it you may lose a couple of grand or make a couple of grand. The price seems good to me I notice no 997's in the $47K range, those that do please point them out. 996's are still trying in the mid $40's

You hit the nail on the head. So what if the car depreciates with miles. As time goes by You Yourself are depreciating!!
Drive the car every chance you get!
It makes it worth every single penny you spent on it.
Remember, cars in general are not investments. They are meant to be driven and enjoyed.
I tell you, I am now 41 and on my second 911. My first 911 was 2005 when I was 38. As the decades go by, I enjoy cars in a different way. Hell guys, when I was 16 my parents bought me a Pontiac Fierro (1984!!). No other car will every be like this car for me (as a 16 year old punk!!). This car was enjoyed like no other car I will every have in my life. Why, because I will never be 16 again!!! and guess what, with my 997TT I will never be 41 again!! I don't want to save the miles on my car till I am 50. Sure I hope to be driving the new 999 when I am 50, but enjoying cars is different when you are younger. (at least for me it is....)
By the way, this is a great deal!!!!
I just traded in my 997s for 64,000 last week!!!!
So for the price you are getting your car for, I would have to say that it is a bargain!!!!
Think about it, you are paying about 1/2 what one would pay for a 2008 997. Park the 05 you just bought next to a 08 997. Would you be able to see the 30-40k difference? Would you be able to feel the 30-40k difference? Not......
Congrats....
If I had a choice, I would buy my cars used. I just had a hard time finding a 997TT cab used. So, I paid sticker price and ordered mine...
Found another one
So here is an update...i skipped out on the black carrera NON S wanting to give it more time to look around...the 39k miles were just too much but the 47k price point was nice.
So, ran into a '05 Carrera S, with Nav, sports seats, sports package/chrono with 30k miles for 59k. The car is clean and in great shape. No signs of any wear and tear or the dreaded RMS issues. Almost new tires, clutch felt great, brakes performed well and no cosmetic issues.
So what do you guys think???? I would of course get it checked out by Porsche and the whole 9 yds.

Need more info --
1) Paint /bodywork ? (have you ckecked closely for overspray or gaps)
2) Porsche dealer or private sale?
3) Have you spoken to previous owner ?
4) 59K --is 22K more (a new one after discounts) --that far away ?
PS -I like less miles -- always have --always will
Car looks great --but they all do on a dealrship lot .

Yes
Everything is in great shape, buying through Carmax. Warranty for another 20k miles or Jan 09.
Also, the last Manheim auction has these going for around 57, not worth the 2k savings.
Plus, 5 day no questions asked return policy gives me a great piece of mind. New loaded S's for 82k huh????
Yes, $22k is that much for me, not the richest guy on these forums....

I suggest that you get a private inspection and if it passes --then buy it.
A Porsche dealership can test for engine over revs and determine the shape of that motor . They can also cleck the paint and body more closely .
They can inspect for things not found --(like water damage) in a clean carfax .
But I like the car -- I liked the last one you found too just did not like the high miles. This one gives you a beefier engine and less miles. Great !!!
Yep
I definetly took your advise on the lower miles and yeah, would always kick myself whenever seeing an S on the road. Are the S's rears wider as well?
Also, the button next to the sport is the exhaust, or is it not? If so, couldn't really tell.
