997 S or 4S?
997 S or 4S?
Hi - I'm considering moving from my M3 to a C4S, one of which is in a dealer close to me. Pretty high spec and a decent price too. However, the general opinion is that the standard "S" is the one to go for.
Does anybody have experience of driving the 2 different models back to back. What are the differences on the road?
If the S is the better of the two, I'll happily wait until one comes along.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

I'd go for S. I Drove both & the S was more fun as I'ts a RWD & a bit faster, plus the car itself is chaeper. I might agree with you if you think that C4S might look nicer from rear as it's wider but I personaly cannot notice the difference. So im my opinion go for the S.

as a 997tt owner, the only 4S I'd get is the one that has 2 turbos strapped to the engine (or unless you intend to do alot of winter driving). C2S costs less, weighs less, and provides that classic Porsche front end feel.

Thanks for your responses guys.
The C4S in question has 11k miles and a decent spec for £55k. So even if the general preference seems to be for the C2S, this may be a more logical purchase?
I think a decent test drive in both is required prior to deciding!

I agree. You need to drive them both to see what you like. I changed recently from a C2S Cab to a Targa 4S. Even though the cab was slightly heavier, it felt lighter due to the lighter front end. The cab felt very sporty, the Targa feels more refined. But what the heck, they both feel great.
around the track the 4s is faster but it really won't make a difference because only a hand full of people can get the best out of these cars.
Since you live in the UK I would say go for the 4S, because the weather in the UK sucks (no offense)

Turbos or not....
I had a 2007 Turbo - sold it to chase other automotive dreams - and now have a 2007 C4S. Have to disagree that the 'only' 4S is the ones with the Turbos. I loved the all-wheel feature and feel of the Turbo which is present of course in the C4S, and I am not at all disappointed with the performance. I am amazed at how much grunt the C4S has....so much so that for every day, real world driving I don't think I'm going to do the Turbo again.
My opinion is that unless you live in a heavy snow region the C2S offers the best value . The C4S has some impressive qualities with its wide body and AWD system but on the normally asiprated engine the AWD is not necessary . Plus with C4S prices close to 997tt range my advice would be to buy the Turbo . Then you have the AWD and another 100Hp to sweeten it's drive .
