iphone and nav

hoping someone might be able to help. just got an 05 997 that has a PCM unit but does not have nav and only a single disc cd (no changer). can someone suggest an aftermarket nav that i can add and still keep the original PCM? is that possible?

in addition to the nav, looking to add connection for an ipod or iphone through the factory PCM as well. any suggestions there? hearing gateway 500 or nav-tv although i'm curious as to whether either one can work in unison with the aftermarket nav...

any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I think you're out of luck.
If you're going to spend some money getting things just so, then you may have 2 options:

1. Kenwood head unit (replaces PCM, loses NO functionality) with 7 inch color touchscreen integrating NAV, Bluetooth, iPod, and DVD Player. With upgraded speakers and amps this runs about $3k installed. Not cheap, but mega functionality and much improved sound.

2. Wait and see if the new '09 PCM can be purchased and installed in your '05. If so, this may be the way to go. But no idea yet on if it'll be possible, and if so, how much it'll cost. If it will work, you'll get OEM look, and OEM Nav, Bluetooth, and iPod, but NO DVD Player.

You can retrofit, with used or new parts the PCM with a Nav unit. Apparently this is an easy job.

I have the Dension unit, does it's job.

The new PCM is a nice unit, but it may or may not work with the older cars. This is one that some one will tryout.

mObridge

The mObridge system works well for iPod integration, although the user interface is very slow.

http://www.mobridgeinc.com/

It isn't fully iPhone compatible, as you receive the warning when you attach your phone. Although I don't remember hearing any interference through the speakers when I forgot to switch the phone to Airplane mode.

I vote mObridge. If you think the interface is slow, you haven't tried NAV-TV.

i believe you can just buy the nav DVD player, gps antenna and cable and turn on your nav. also, if you get the phone module.. you can get a 2nd line with ATT ($5) and forward all phone calls to your car.

Kenwood

Hey Cattman,
Have you changed your PCM out yet? I have been looking at this for awhile and am getting ready to pull the trigger. I think the kenwood 8120 will be the way for me to go. Although Pioneer just came out with the 90BT but seems there are some issues and the screen is 5.8"

No, not yet.
I was debating between waiting to buy the new version of the OEM PCM, or do the Kenwood.
Leaning toward the Kenwood as it's a full 7 inch touchscreen, I can play DVD's (just a cool factor), AND they'll upgrade my bose speakers and amp for better sound.
LOL, looks like I've made up my mind!
Just waiting to plunk down the $3,500 to do it.
