Help - Is this a good deal? First Porsche.
Hello, Im a new member and this is my first post.
Well I happy to announce that i will be buying my first porsche!
I'm still pretty young and very excited about buying my dream car, but I'm a little apprehensive about such a purchase and i want to make sure I get the car I will be happy with and a GOOD DEAL.
I'm looking at a few cars, yet the best one is one from a co-worker of a friend.
2005 Carrera S
Silver/Black
Sport Chrono
Nav
Full Leather
16 K Miles
He is the original owner.
He also told me that last year his bike fell of its rack and damaged the driver side fender and door. At the time he had no intention of selling the car so he reported it to his insurance and took it to a very high end local body shop. The replaced both panels completely, and the car look great. (He also has all the paperwork to back up this and it was a total cosmetic damage).
I negotiated a price of $60K.
To me this seems like a good deal as most 2005 Carrera S are selling for 5-10 K more.
What do you guys think?????
Is this a good deal or should I keep looking.
Thanks for any and all info.

I would pass for two reasons . The price is high, it has bodywork , warranty is near end . A ding or adent is one thing . Even a scrach with paint I'd accept --but a replaced panel is something I stay clear from .
When you go to sell that car the new (third owner) would have alot of doubts about the car which by then would have higher mileage and no warranty making it very hard for you to sell .
60K ought to find a better car (like very close to an 06 997S with less miles and no damage) .

The tires are OK, not new, not old.
The seats are Power Seats.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS CAR IS WORTH???? (HE SAID HE WOULD NOT TAKE ANYTHING UNDER $60K)
It seems that any other Carrera S is priced much higher with similar miles.
I plan on keeping this car for 5+ years at least.
This is a large buy for me and I won't get a car unless i feel its exactly what i want and it is a GOOD DEAL.
No matter what I plan on getting an extended warranty from my dealer. (6years/72,000 miles from day of purchase of warranty) These means the car will be warrantied until 2015.... so CP is not a big issue for me.
Any 2006 CS i look at is priced between $69-$79K, and that is way out of my budget, since i will have to pay sales tax in CA. So my max at this time is $62K.
I want to get a Carrera S with Low miles (15K or below), and in like new condition.
I'm looking for Silver, Grey, White, & Blue exterior.

wow, how the heck can you find a an 06 997S with less miles for 60K???? I looked forever and couldn't even hit $67 for a decent low miles car. Please show me where these great deals are
fyi, yrralis1, i really respect your opinion and info in your posts, but could never find the prices you throw out.

Its funny though- Chicagoland could be a very competitive used market making prices higher than other parts of the country...
Kamran,
Why do you think the Carrera S's will be in the 50s by fall?
Because of the 2009 Model? If so wouldn't the price have gone down once they were début to the public, which was last month....

I think that $60k is a 'go for it' price on that car if there are no other stories or issues with it. Definitely get a ppi done and it would also be nice if the tires are in decent shape, but i say make it happen!
I have talked to a couple of guys trying to hunt down bargain price 05 and 06 997S cars with less than 20K miles, and they are frequently looking at 65K and even up to 75K for low mileage 06S with lots of options.
My opinion is that the price is pretty good.
Get a full inspection.
The body work as described (provided you have good documentation) will not deter a serious buyer looking at an 8 - 9 year old car provided it is priced to market.
Some will say that the new 09 model (997+) will lower the price on the previous model and I think it will, but not much. The early purchasers of the 09 will be waiters (without a 997 to trade) and those of us who have to have the latest and greatest with a 997, I think that most of the people with 997s will trade and that the dealers will be out to get top $ for them. PCNA is getting fewer cars and used US cars are being bought by overseas buyers (low dollar) so I would not expect to see a significant change in price in the new few months.
A social note: I really would not stretch your (or my) budget to the limit to buy a toy like this; if you have to really stretch to buy it then you might look at a base model 05. One hell of a car for a first Pcar - but then on the other hand I wish I bought my first Pcar when I was younger and you only live once!
Put a few $ in the bank for tires and enjoy!
