Whats in the Nav Update -Got a postcard from Porsche

The postcard which arrived July 12th, says:
  • up to 709,000 additional navigable miles
  • 368,000 additional POIs
  • New and expanded coverage in cities and metro areas
  • Greater arrival time accuracy prediction
I have the disk and it indeed does show greater detail in some areas at the 0.30 mile threshold setting.

Are you referring to an update for current models? Or is this the update for the 09?

It is an update for current models to update the map database. Garmin does the same thing every couple of years.

Nope. The Porsche update DVD is $200 or $299, can't remember which. I seldom use the Porsche Nav, so won't be buying the map database update.

Same, plus iPhone GPS has better mapping and searching.

Called the dealer closest to my office (Manhattan Motorcars) to ask if I could stop by to pick up the DVD update (cost - $299). The guy in the parts department told me that I would have to bring in the car for a service appointment, as there is some labor involved in the NAV update.

I assumed you could just insert the new DVD and that was all that was needed-am I wrong?

I would have made the same assumption as you did.

Depending on the year of the car and the PCM #, 1 0r 2 disc upgrade then a new Map DVD. Yeh, can be done by self!
