Question: Process for steering wheel removal

I'm swapping steering wheels, what is the correct procedure for disconnecting the airbag?

1. key in ignition, turn to position 1
2. remove negative battery cable, wait for more than 10 mins
3. disconnect airbag and change wheel
4. reconnect airbag
5. reconnect battery

Does this sound about right? I read a thread where it was recommended to NOT put the key in the ignition before disconnecting the battery / removing airbag, but IIRC that would set off the alarm on 996 cars- not sure if same applies to 997.

Daytonaviolet is infamous around these parts
i removed my wheel when replacing it with the RS steering wheel. this is what i did.

1. align the steering wheel absolutely straight and take the key out of ignition.
2. disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. (i didnt wait 10min)
3. disconnect airbag and change wheel (avoid closing the doors, as windows dont move)
4. reconnect airbag
5. reconnect battery

Cool- Thanks! So it's confirmed, remove the key before disconnecting battery.
Do you happen to remember what size the main Torx bolt is?

actually the bolt holding the steering wheel is not a torx, its a 12point serrated socket - 12mm. also, once connecting the batery you will get a traction control light on your dash. it will go away as you drive about 1/2 block.
