OK, so today I called a couple dealerships wondering if I can get an oil change on my 2006 911 C2S. My car has about 17200 miles on it, and I did an oil change at 3,000 miles and about a year ago at 8,000 miles. So , I felt the need to service my car one more time and every service advisor asked me if I wanted the Oil change or an Oil service. The price difference was $200, making the service more expensive.

Can anyone tell me which one I need and what is actually included in the Oil service?

I expect that "service" includes oil filter, cabin filter, a check of brake pads, tires, fluids, etc.

Since you're in Irvine, have you tried Hergesheimer in Lake Forest? They are significantly cheaper than dealer and do good work I'm told.

Why not change oil and filters yourself? I did mine a month ago and it was a breeze.

You'd probably get a more accurate answer if you asked the service department about the difference.

 

oil change consists of draining oil and changing filter then backing car out, oil service would normally include a basic safety inspection in addition to the oil change. Check and fill fluid levels all around: basic chassis, brake inspection, and if applicable a tire rotation.

Thats my shops interpretation at least

 

I would highly recommend Hergesheimer also. Very honest reputable independant service with resonable prices. Mark and Laura are great people also.

Everyone's definition is different but I'm sure the one that is more expensive includes inspections and cabin filter change. If your car has not gone through it ever, I'd recommend it. Inspections should be done every 15k along with every oil change. I'd not do oil change alone unless you are on a pitch.

 

OK went to Hergesheimer and I LOVED it! Their service is incredible and very detailed. For anyone close, you really have to give them a try. You will save over $150.

 

That's great to hear. Mark and Laura are my neighbors and I have referred their shop to several newer and older model 911 owners and mercifully, nobody has been disappointed.

It's nearly impossible to please everyone so I think it says a lot when you get that kind of success.

 

I think it is best if you ask https://driveautocare.com to get an idea or the shop that's offering the service, might be different from shop to shop.

 

Isn't this covered in the manual? There is an oil change, then there are minor and major services. Both "services" include an oil change, I think the major service includes air filters, cabin filters, etc.? Both are designed to take advantage of rich Porsche owners who have more money than common sense and don't know how to work on their own cars.

Speaking from memory, but check the manual, or just ask the service advisor..?
