Tire replacement 295/35/18 help requested
Hello all;
I have searched this forum for some help and see some great recommendations but mostly for swapping 18's for track ready tires however my situation is slightly different and if anyone has had similar experience I would appreciate your thoughts.
When I got my 2009 C4 the dealer replace all tires with All weather Continental Extreme DWS on the 235x40x18 in front and Continental Extreme DWS06-S 295x35x18 on the rear.
I picked up a nail on the side wall of one of the rear's and have a slow leak.
As its on the side wall the tire is toast and needs to be replaced. Here is my dilemma:
Conti 295/35/18 are not available anywhere, they are on national back log. None from Tirerack, 3 Porsche dealers (hoping for one to be in stock), and 2 tire dealers, all coming back with the same answer.
They estimate at least 3 months at the earliest. Obviously driving on a slow leak for 3 months is not optimal so I would like to get the problem resolved.
I am being told no other tire mfg makes an all season tire in the 295/35/18 size, and one Porsche dealer mentioned that this is a very unpopular size and might not continue to be made.
The only solution is to buy 2 summer tires because 2 winters tires in december is slim pickings.
Here is my question: Cant I run a different tire size on this rim or would I need to change rim sizes to support a different tire size? I don't mind going to a 305/40/18 if that's more "typical" I just want a set of tires that will be available when needed.
I appreciate any thoughts / solutions to this.
sincerely
Bill

closing this out
So Continental Customer Service confirmed there are no DWS06 295/35/18 to be had. On the plus side because I am in the spec of less than 2/32nd used, they are willing to give me 100% credit towards the set of 295's. My dealer confirmed that a Conti DWS 283/35/18 will work just a bit narrower tire but will not throw off the ABS, so I have replaced both rears with the 285/35/18's
I doubt I will notice the 10mm less width but be sure that when these need to be replaced, I will do so with a set of 305's to over compensate ;-)

Not sure if you are a PCA member or rennlist member but check the classifieds on those sites along with this one. I had similar problem 1-2years ago with my driver front tire. Had a huge gash in the side wall that looked like someone hit it with a box knife. All the Michelin psc2 tires were on back order but landed 2 used tires off PCA classifieds for $300, with less than 1k miles on them. Also a great place to snag some rims or winter tire/rim sets.
