I've had a slk55 and now the 911. I don't even think its a comparison. If you can afford the 911 I would say to go for it.

 

The fact that you would post this on these forums shows how much you really like that slk. If you want it that bad, then just get it. You are supposed to get the car that YOU like, not a car that appeals to everyone but you. Test drive both, make a decision, and post the pics here so we can all see. Good luck.

 

the slk is a piece of crap next to a 911. looking at the contours of a mb slk, you can tell it's second quality compared to their SL, CL, E top runners.

get a 911 c2s cab. you won't regret it.

you can get'em for ~92k new these days.

 

Two very different cars.

Drive both and you'll see what I mean and the choice will be clear.

I think since you have to ask that you should get the SLK. They really aren't comparable cars.

 

I've owned a SLK55 and a 996-C4S (current car).

The SLK is fine if you want to cruise around in a comfortable convertible. You can occasionally get some sport out of it (I'm sure even with the really small engines like in the 200 you can as well.)

I will by no means say one car is better than the other.

The 911 is a sports car. The SLK is a touring car. Other than being convertibles, they do not directly compare.

 

As everyone else has said, the difference is like night and day. I would not even consider it in the same class at all.
