iPod integration system or coilovers?
iPod integration system or coilovers?
I would like to install both eventually, but only have the funds right now to install the Denison iPod integration system, which will cost me about $850 total. Also, I'm driving up to Bay Area and found an installer up there that would do it much cheaper and better qualified than anyone I can find in Las Vegas. So since I don't plan on driving the car up to the Bay Area again anytime soon, I was leaning towards getting the systme installed while I'm up there.
BUT I prefer to spend the money on coilovers before on the Denison given that the coilovers will improve the driving experience. I'm leaning towards the PSS10 or JIC Cross coilovers with both costing about mid-$2000 range plus installation. The best price for installation in Vegas is $1000, which seems a little high to me. When I do get the coilovers, I might drive to SoCal to get them installed since I have family there to visit and many more options in terms of installers.
So my question is do I get the Denison installed now given that I have the funds and found an installer in the Bay Area with good rates and experience or do I save the funds and wait to get the coilovers when I have enough saved?
Wish I had all the funds now so I can get both installed in the Bay Area.
Thanks in advance for all your opinions.

Think outside the box
. Who says you can't have both?
An RF modulator is an RF modulator. Low power RF transmitter.

Great post- I've been where you are at twice now!
Get coilovers first, it will make your pcar a heck of alot more fun to drive. #1 first mod.
I highly recommend KWv3's if you are considering a non-PASM compatible upgrade. KW's are about $2500 group buy price in the group buy forum area, and they seriously ride very well.
Either way you go, you can't go wrong. If you only plan on sticking to town / freeway driving the PASM-compatable PSS10's might be the preferred choice.
Install should only be about $500 or so bucks!! Check out www.ef1motorsports.com in Signal Hill area near Long Beach. I have had two pcars done there with suspension and alignment- top notch work, very nice owner (Fab). Both times he aligned my pcars to GT3 street specs, works great.
Have you considered the mobridge? it's only $550 and an easy DIY

Wow. It must be a perspective thing: I'm coming from a car that was nowhere near my new-to-me 2006 997C2. The handling and overall feel of the car continues to amaze me. I bought the Dension right away because I like the tunes on my iPod. If you are going to the track maybe you need the coil-overs, but my vote would be for the music first. But I totally understand "to each their own".
Little confused by the price you are quoting for the Dension: its ~$500 for the unit, are you paying $350 for the install? Its about 2 hours labor for an amateur taking their time.
My 2 cents.

Coilovers for sure. I have pss10 damptronics for sale at an awesome price that would be perfect for your car!

Thanks.
I looked at FM transmitters and haven't found too many good feedbacks about the product.
As for the total cost, $500 for the Denison, $100 for a used 30 GB iPod that I'm going to dedicate to the car and $250 for labor. I have an iPhone, but don't want to put it in the glove box everytime I get in the car. First I can't find a qualified installer in Vegas and couple I called quoted me install charge of over $500. When it comes to DYI car audio, I'm below an amature status
I'm getting sick of listening to radio.
I do mostly street driving, but have gone to one track event, which was great, and would like to do 3-4 track events a year. From what I've read, PSS10 is great for the street and JIC are good for mostly street driving plus minimal track. I'd llike to keep my PASM working and have read PSS10 and JIC willl not mess up my the PASM.
If I wasn't going up to the Bay Area in a week, then, I would just save the money for coilovers, but given that I'm going up there and have a chance to get the Denison installed at good price by a qualified installer is what's making me lean towards getting the Denioson installed.

The low cost fm transmitter is a temporary recommendation. It's fast and cheap. Ten minute hookup for peanuts. I have the sirius transmitter, because I couldn't stand all the friggin FM commercials every 5 minutes and have a list of things to do for the car. Somewhere at the end of the shopping list will pickup NavTV and give my sirius to a friend.

Big_O: thanks for your suggestions. I went to Best Buy and an Apple store and got two different FM transmitters. One didn't work with the iPhone and the other one didn't block out the static so I couldn't use it for more than a few seconds.
Looks like I'll be going with Denison, but still not sure if I should do that next week in SF or just wait and save enough for coilovers......

Hey guys, I installed the NavTV ipod in my 997 and it took me all of 15 minutes. I did not hook it in behind the head unit, I hooked it up next to the NAV DVD unit in the front boot. Total cake.
I did similar with my CTT and Mobridge ipod unit, hooked it up near the CD changer. Took 15 mins.
I like hiding my ipod and only take it out of the car to update tunes (I have three ipods, two are dedicated in-car devices), so the extra time / hassle of fitting the NavTV or the Mobridge behind the head unit didn't make sense to me.
Just a thought to save some $$ vs giving it away to a stereo install shop.

If you're gonna be in the Bay area, you should check into SharkWerks for the PSS10s.
If you go for the iPod, I recommend you look at mObridge. Run a search here and you'll find all kinds of feedback about it -- mostly good I think.

The iPod solution is for you. The coilovers are for the car. Get your music on first, then do suspension.
Also, you'll tire of the limitations of the FM transmitter type adapter very quickly.

Cool, sometimes you gotta try some low cost options first. What some people don't know, is "like a cb antenna" the fm transmitters also use matched antennas. Looking for a frequency around 87 MHZ or 106.7 MHZ does make a difference with static. I found my sirius unit puts out more power at the upper end of the band and works so well, it's impossible to tell it's not hard wired.
