difference bw regular and s
Hi
I am too lazy to search for this topic this am. Could anyone give me a quick rundown of the differences b/w s and regular 997. I know the 3.6 vs 3.8 and brakes, pasm, chrono etc but does s have lsd and other chasis or suspension etc differences.
thanks in advance

Engine, which you only get with the S.
And the slightly bigger standard brakes.
Most everything else can be optioned to add to the baseline model.
Even the S on the backside can be purchased afterwards..

30 more hp's the real big difference between the two. You get slightly larger brakes with red calipers and pasm. Everything else can be optioned on a non "S"
I'd rather have a non S supercharged than a regular "S". Both would be real close in price.

I have researched this topic a lot.
To be honest the differences really just come down to the engine 3.8 to 3.6 for the Non-S. The difference is about 30Hp for the 997.1 and 50Hp for the 997.2 (roughly)
Believe it or not there are lot of new and used 997's that exist with PASM, Chrono, PSM and 19" S wheels. You can even get a standard 997 with PCCB or the S brakes so even that isnt a difference. 997's and 997S's dont have LSD's, at least not in the US.
So that leads us to the engine differences. If you read a lot of reviews you will find that the 3.8 is much more torquey to drive. What does that mean for everyday... it feels much faster than its 30 more HP's really provide. However, it has been noted the 3.6 revs quicker and once its in its happy zone around 4000RPM the differences between it and the 3.8 are small.
If you are considering used cars it is important to understand that a well optioned standard 997 with PASM, Chrono, PSM, and bigger brakes can be just as capable as an S on the track, where tires and brakes matter more than 30Hp. However, in the real world the S is going to feel faster and some people equate that to more fun or a better experience.
