Anyone opted for manual over PDK in 997.2 ?

I have not seen or driven the PDK yet. I haven't even driven the M3 version and bought my M3 in manual. My 997tt is also manual over tip.

I love rowing my own gears . Just curious ---has anyone driven BOTH 997.2 cars and opted for a manual ? To me the Porsche grearbox is one of the best I have ever driven .

I understand that some simply don't like shifting in traffic or may be coming out of a tiptronic but I am wondering if anyone made the switch out of a manual and into PDK because he thought the car was all around better to drive.

I have driven both and the PDK is great, but I am a manual guy. If this was going to be a track car I might have gone for the PDK, it is very very fast!!!!

I like shifting, it's part of the feedback to the driver and I love doing my heel and toe.

997.2 6-speed

Hi,

i took delivery last month of a '09 C2S with the manual gearbox. I had driven the PDK version anmd was very impressed, but only in full automatic mode. The paddles are irritating and a distraction and the car's box is so intelligent that I doubt you can beat it in sport mode. However, I just spent a couple of years driving a VW GTI with DSG and it gradually dumbs you down as a driver. I missed the interaction with the car, so opted for a manual.

No regrets...

Just picked up my '09 S with manual (and sport shifter - if you've never tried the factory sport shifter, it's the cheapest, best option Porsche offers). I'm sure the PDK works just great, but 6 months behind the wheel of a GTI with DSG and paddles taught me that what is fun for a few days quickly becomes equivalent to another uninvolving "autotrans" no matter how fast it shifts.

Interesting replies! I'm a 3 pedal guy and haven't had the proclivity to testdrive the pdk despite all the fantastic reviews.

Great replies . I decided to go to the local dealership and look at the car . I had not seen the car yet in person and even though I did not ask to drive one I did talk to a few from both the sales and service end .

They loved the PDK and much as said on the thread they touted its precision and speed in the shift . In "sport " mode I was told it actually slams you into the gear upon acceleratioin so quickly .

The universal opinion is that the button press feature might have been better as a paddle shifter .

It would be a very big change to change the shift enjoyment I get from my cars but when the new Turbo comes out (possibly 2010) I will look at this .

i love manual for Porsche. if i can have only 1 Porsche it has to be in manual. but makes no mistake the PDK will be much faster than i can shift & possibly better in day to day use.

I drove the pdk twice....first time I was amazed at how it worked....second time, right before I bought, I drove it again and noticed a little hesitation in first gear and actually missed the feeling of the 6 speed. I ended up with the manual....
Jay Leno has a great video where he drives both and ends up saying he loves the idea but he would go with the manual as well.

I was told that unlike a tiptronic which just goes on a tap of the foot , the PDK requires a little more pedal pressure but will still move like a rocket.
