PSDS...teaching an old dog some tricks

I'm registered for the Porsche Sports Driving School, Dec 11-12.

After a tiring year at work and with help of a discount from forum member "flash68" I decided to treat myself.

This old dog is going to learn some tricks about driving these great cars. I would say "new" tricks but I'm a real novice with any kind of sports drving or DE, so I don't have any tricks at all.

Thanks for all those who have posted here about the PSDS. It made my decision easier to make.

you will have a great time and it's good that you don't have any pre-conceived notions or bad habits to break...just keep an open mind and listen...listen...listen...try to move your vision further ahead of the car as your speed increases (the natural tendency is to do just the opposite)...you will be psyched afterward...I would love to do it again...

Sounds great and I hope you have a fantastic time!

How does one go about obtaining a discount anyhow? If it is a super secret, by all means will someone please PM me? I would love to do this as well. Any locations in California?

Can you do it in a PDK car? C4? Seems it would more be beneficial if tailored to the car you (will) own. Aside from (and in addition to) the lessons of basic car control.

Skippy is at Laguna Seca and Russell is at Infineon (Sears Point) but you won't get P-cars at either one...to drive Porsches you will have to go to Alabama

PSDS does offer Tiptronics and will have PDK shortly. Just call them and reserve that particular car.

Thumbs up Psds

PSDS will have MY09 cars very soon if not now.
They will have them for sure for the Legends Course on Dec 17.
Std cars will be 6 speed Carreras with a few PDK
'S' cars will be PDK and will be rotated in
Turbos will also be rotated in as well.

If you have done the performance class, do the Masters

If you have never done PSDS you are really missing a GREAT driving and learning experience at the finest track in North America.
Don't think about it, just sign-up and do it!
You will NOT be disappointed!

going this weekend for the beginner course. Looking forward to it. Is it assumed you know how to Heal/toe or is it taught?

WOW you are finally attending!
You will have a great time.
Hopefully you know a bit about the mechanics of heel/toe, but there will be an exercise to help with your ability.

Report back about your experience and if the new 997's are in place.

Say hi for me: Brian to Jeff, Cass or any of the other instructors.

Enjoy!!!

Just got back...and its was even better than expected.

(I was able to get the discount by purchasing a gift cert someone was unable to use at a reduced cost.

The program is first class all the way.

Some comments....

The new 2009 997's are not on site yetand I am not sure they expect them in time for the legends class.

Cass was the lead instructor for the course I took and he did a great job...all the instructors did...brian, dan, pete, christian, chris.

Dan led the second day class and the cayenne off-road run and he had me laughing my *** off. All the instructors provided me with constant feedback in a very professional, friendly way.

Drove boxsters, box S, caymen S, carrera, and carrera S. We did hot laps in carrera turbo and cayenne turbo. The cayenne turbo lab driven by Cass was just remarkable.

THey did a short session on heel/toe but for a novice like me I was just starting to get it at the end of the session....but I did not use it on the big track when I wanted to shift. I'll practice the technique as they showed me and I think I'll have it smooth in time.

Did fine on autocross...but the skid pad was a big challenge for me.

Overall I think I made very solid progress over the two days and was happy with the way I rode the line as the course progressed....and the speeds increased to points greater than I honestly expected as I learned to relax and to make the car move (and brake) with as little movement as required.

Hotel is nice but a little far from the track...about 40 minutes.

The PSDS dinner the first night is very good. You should not miss it even if you stay somewhere else.

Just a great way to learn about performance driving and these cars.

Thanks for the review! It seems like it's always a positive experience when doing the Porsche Schools or even the alternative driving schools. I'm hoping to forego my motorcycle habits this year and participate in a few PSDS, maybe some winter sessions though at Camp4 Colorado.

I talked to a Porsche rep during hte 997.2 launch and they informed me that Porsche Canada was going to start offering Canadian driving schools/camps. I hope this is true!

Great to hear that you had a great time!!
It is quite the amazing program.
Now think about doing the Masters! If you thought that the Performance class was great,
the Masters takes the experience to a much higher level.

Were the Turbos Sticks or Tips???

all tips...

I think I will do the perfomance school one more time and then move to the masters....unless I master heel/toe to the point of smooth shifts....

of course by time I do it again, PDK will be on site and I can move to them....
