Clutch is gone- upgrade time?
Clutch is gone- upgrade time?
Apparently my wife or a valet burned out my clutch, so it's time to replace most likely clutch and flywheel. While this sucks, the silver lining is the opportunity to upgrade to a lightweigth flywheel and high performance clutch.
Does anyone have any experience here? What brands do you recommend- I've only heard of Sachs. What is the driving difference like?
Thanks.

I just bought a LWFW from FVD, got a great deal. I am not sure what shape my clutch is in, but if I need to replace I will just go with OEM, can handle the power without any problems.
Different Clutch could make the car harder to drive, which could keep the wife out of the car.

My wife doesn't even like going in my Porsche. I am OK with that as well.

One could write an entire thread titled "the 997S through the eyes of a wife" and BTW the experiences would vary . I know mine have changed as i have been married more than once and now I have finally found bliss --a serious girlfriend who loves my car , respects how much I cherish it , does not wish to drive it , and is happy driving the M3 or any car -- as long as we are together .
It only took me 46 years to find her (I'm 50 now) .
I've always been interested in a LWFW - to enable faster engine spin-up, responsiveness for rpm-matching for downshifts, etc. But I'm concerned that it will enable added vibration to pass through to the body/frame/driver. Is this a valid concern? Is there any downside to accompany the aforementioned upside?
As per AWE, who recommend and sell the Sachs packages, there is some added vibration and clamor from the transmission when at idle. However, since I already have a loud car (Fabspeed mufflers, EVO intake, and soon to add AWE sport cats) I am not concerned. Plus, the sound is common in high-performance cars that utilize lightweight flywheels.
I don't mind additional noise. It's vibration and harshness that concerns me. The smoothness of the 997S is admirable and something I don't want to forgo. But if it's only at idle, NP.
Many thanks.

I ordered the Sachs Stage 2 hi-performance clutch and lightweight flywheel from A.W.E. today. Even my dealer said the car will drive with a new attitude in the form of greatly improved acceleration, so the silver lining to needing a new clutch is that it's an opportunity for yet another performance mod.
I'll let y'all know how it comes out when it get it back.

I received a call from the shop that my clutch is just above 50% at 14,400 miles (24,000KM) and that in there experience the first half of the clutch will wear out faster then the second half. We both agreed that it would last to about 36,000 miles (60,000KM) so I elected to leave it in the car. I am sure I will regret the decision when it finally wears out, at this point I am waiting for feedback on the third party clutches to make the choice as to which way to go.
BTW how much for the Sach's clutch?
Very cool. Looking forward to hearing the drivers review. Best of luck with it.
