Pse or aftermarket exhaust?
Pse or aftermarket exhaust?
I will be ordering a 997.2 next week and wonder if I should order the PSE or put an aftermarket exhaust on later. For those of you that have the PSE on your 997.1 do you wish you had waited and put an aftermarket setup on or are you satisfied with the PSE. I realize the PSE adds no HP or Tq. improvement, just sound, but many of the aftermarket do claim power improvements and sound.
I wish I could hear the new PSE before I order the car, but it will not be available until Feb. build.
Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Sky, I think the PSE sounds just right. I ordered my car without having it installed by the factory, then had the dealership put it on before it was delivered. No electronic over rides that way. It was on loud full time. Sounded great, no resonance!
yes from me
Hello fellow Twin Citian!
I have the PSE and am very happy with the way it sounds and enjoy having the option of having the louder sporty sound on or off with a push of a button, unlike most aftermarket exhausts.
I know the PSE doesn't come out on the .2 models until next Feb, but ask to borrow a .1 version with it for a drive to see if you like the difference.
I am guessing you are working with Darin at Carousel - they are very helpful in sorting out your options.
Good Luck!

Dave07997: From everything I've read on these forums, the only exhaust mod that makes any measurable power difference is changing or removing the cats. You can do that with PSE as well. I agree with other posters who like the option of switching PSE on and off. I use that feature a lot.
Before doing anything, go listen. Aftermarket exhausts have a drone from 2,500 to 3,500 RPM's and unless the majority of driving is done on the freeway, city driving will be miserable. I put my exhaust back to stock after the resonance was so loud. The cabin noise was louder than my modded Harley! It was like putting a megaphone in your ear and having someone yell into it. Listening to music comfortably was over. All the videos and sound clips don't show the increase in decibels running swapped out mufflers. The best you will do is a 5 to 8 HP gain but the cabin noise will be unbearable. The PSE may be more costly, but it was engineed by the same people who made your car. If you want an instant 20 HP increase go get an ECU software upgrade instead.

Another fan of PSE. I like the sound combined with my headers and cats. I have the plug disconnected to leave the PSE on all the time, but it is nice to have the option to shut it off when wanted.
Skyking, you have to tell me about the jet in your avitar..is it yours?
PSE sounds really good but for the amount on money you will spend on PSE you can but headers and exhaust and have a great sound, gain power and lose weight at the rear of the car.
I went aftermarket with my 09 997S. I went with the Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes. When Fapspeed comes out with there dual cone tunable mufflers I will probably go with those and their X pipe.

Go aftermarket if you are creating a track car and want every last ounce of HP. Otherwise I suggest the PSE. I believe every aftermarket exhaust creates some sort of vibration or resonance. I wasted plenty of money experimenting with Awe and SpeedArt systems on my 2006 Boxster S. The old butt dyno indicated extra power with the AWE but nothing with the SpeedArt. Both vibrated in the 2800 rpm range which drove me nuts. But I'm very picky. I finally switch to PSE which had no vibration or discernible effect on HP
It did sound much better than stock though.

If you just want the sound, then PSE is the way to go. Everybody asks me if I have aftermarket exhaust. Sounds great, and the switch is nice when you don't want to draw the attention, or maybe just trying to make a phone call.
