Cayman S vs C4S?
I would not be so sure that they are squeezing pennies out of the engine just yet! That is what the $150 floor mats are for.
If they wanted to include the "true dry sump" I would imagine they would just tack some money on the price of the car. Porsche is certainly not bashful of raising prices. And, the engineering on this engine occurred prior to the economic crisis.....Sounds like they just realized that they could eliminate some clutter and cut some weight. Until I hear of oil starvation problems, I would give them the benefit of the doubt...for now......

I had 2 Cayman Ss and now have a 997 C2S Cabriolet (08). I wouldn't have changed just for a base 997 (maybe a 997.2 but would have to compare with updated Cayman S as well). I would make the change for a C4S (if it was the right deal).
Cayman S Pros
Handling - It does handle better (and I drove several non-cabriolets 911a so that's not it). And, once again this can be debated, but the Cayman S has plenty of Soul, needs grunt, but plenty of soul! Many magazine writers felt the Cayman S is more like an older 911, more raw etc. Even Walter Rohl said it was his favorite car a few years ago and partially because of this.
Shifter - The Cayman S shifted better for some reason, my C2S feels like it will grind if I am too fast and feels a little sloppier than the Cayman S box did.
Looks - This is obviously up to the individual but, I got more females smiling at me trying to get my attention in the Cayman S than the Cabriolet (we will see if that changes come my first summer). I have gotten about the same amount of "nice car" comments from guys. The 911 is not bad looking, I just prefered the Cayman S
Luggage Space - The Cayman Hatch is enourmous for what it is! You can fit 3 sets of golf clubs in the back (I know only two are needed) or two sets, and luggage. The luggage space is easier and better (from an efficiency standpoint) than a 911 is. Yes, I know it has no back seat!
Cons
Resale Value - I sold my first one back to the dealer 16 months ago and they still have it (I did get a lot of money for it). They appear to be dropping like Boxster resale values (duhhhh)!
Power - I do not like modding my cars too much anymore because I end up selling them within a year to 2 years so that is a lot of wasted money to me.
Cache - The 911 will always have more, owning the Cayman S didn't make me feel less worthy or like I was driving a lesser car, but to those that don't know cars the 911 means more. Who knows, I may end up with a Cayman S again some day.
I am sure I am missing some observations, but this is just my $.02!
