Cayman S vs C4S?
Hello guys!
I have a tiptronic cayman s fully loaded. I am thinking to trade in for a very nice C4S fully loaded as well but in stick. I really hate tiptronic
. I am also not capable of getting the new 997.2 PDK. It is just too darn expensive!
Pros:
More fun to drive since the 6 speed
60hp more but also weight of the car is higher
rear seats for pets
the sexy rear wide body
Cons:
I think the cayman looks better
I think the cayman handles better
I think the cayman just suffers lack of hp
**is the new DFI 997.2 3.8's 40hp+ worth the wait?

The C4S is faster, more comfortable, more practical , and probably pne of the best all around 911's made for the street for the dollar. It has AWD, Turbo brakes, Turbo body, and costs a lot less . It's been called "the UNturbo" and in just about evety aspect can spank a Cayman S . The new one even has Axle lock differential standard , can come with sport bucket seats (lighter) , and has more Hp than the previous 997.1 .
An 07 CPO will cost as much as a new Cayman S . I like the Cayman S too but it does NOT have all the things listed in your "pro" argument and even number 3 of the cons is actually pro C4S.

Some folks will add a a kit to the C4S but it actually looks nice stock too. I added the kit to mine for aerodynamics when I began modifying my car with increased Hp.

Yoir first post mentioned the C4S . It's a different car than the C2S . The "4" is all wheel drive and wide body . The 2 is two wheel drive and narrower . The "4" is newly designed but the previous 997 models (2005 to 08) had the Turbo body minus the wing, front and side vents . It has all the other Turbo components like brakes and available options . It does not have the same engine thoigh. The Tubo is a 3.6 liter turbo dry sump engine . The C4S is a 3.8 liter wet sump . The new C4S has direct fuel injection and some extra Hp (30 on the S model) .

If you don;t need the back seats then the 911 is a bit of a waste of money. Why not look for a used Cayman S with stick? You can add performance mods (supercharger, coil-overs) to a car that will be a much better performer than the 911. Take a look at what Ruf could do for you with a used Cayman S.
my 2cents is that the cayman is just a smidge too small as an everyday driver. If you are a tall guy, the cayman has a great driving position for the track, but when you are on a 3 hour drive, I start looking for a way to straighten out my legs. Also, the cayman is down on Hp, but some say has a better cornering balance. Surely, when on-throttle it does not plow like the 911 does. It also does not bobble. I, however, like the way the 911's weight over the rear axle feels in transitions...very unique.
As for esthetics, that is too individual for a pro/con. I like the curves of the 911s posterior, but like the profile of the cayman. What is nice is that you can see how porsche contoured the cars for their engine placement. Very Bauhaus.....

I had the pleasure of renting a Cayman S in Germany last Spring, had it for 4 days and drove 800km over those 4 days including a lap at the Ring.
I was hoping for a Carrera S but there wasn't one available when I was there. I found the Cayman was fun and easy to drive, but it lacked the soul and grunt that the Carerra has. I would imagine that the tip in your car only makes the driving experience less exciting and a little slower then the 6 speed Cayman S.
One other test to see what car is more fun to drive, and has a big got to have it factor is, do a search for the number of Carrera owners that want a Cayman vs the number of Cayman owners that want a Carrera.

The Porsche web site says dry sump on both the C2S and C4S, for 2009. I thought that was the OP's model of discussion since he discusses PDK. Are you speaking of other years?
Thanks!
The first generation 997's were wet sump. Only the Turbo and GT3's were dry sump.
it really is a grunt....!
thinking of moving the Boxster s into a C2s or a C4s. there are great deals on in stock 08's. up here the dealers are selling new ones for less than the used ones in auto trader.
The new 09 engine is listed as an "integrated dry sump" and that is not the same as a "dry sump" which has a separate oil tank found in the Gt3 , Turbo .
My guess is that this "integrated" engine will make its way into the new Turbo and the Gt1 engine will be abandoned but not forgotten .
I don't know the technical aspects but upon reading the Porsche wording it sure sounds a bit like some cost cutting . Maybe the new engine will have more Hp but it won't mean that Porsche has retained a purist root in its Turbo. Only time will tell what engine is in the car but my opinion leans towards retaining the Gt1 and upgrading the other aspects which it seems like the Tuners have found .
